I'm planning the following components for a stereo behind the bench seat of my 81 C-10 shortbox pickup.......... What do you think of the choices?

(1) Boston Acoustics GTA1105 5 channel amp
(2) Rockford Fosgate slim 10" punch subs
(2) Rockford Fosgate SE60 component speakers - (4) 6.5" mids and (4) 3/4" tweeters
(1) Rockford Fosgate 1 farad capacitor

Let me hear your opinions.

anything in the doors or dash?

I don't know if I would run 4 speakers behind the bench, with 4 highs too. Might be too much, causing a muddy sound, or chaos. My cousin did two 10" woofers, a 5" cone and 3/4 tweeter on each side angled up and to the sides. Sounds good, but he also had 4x6 plates in the dash and two amps.

I don't think you'll have enough amp to run all that equipment. You're also stuffing a whole lot of mid/high into a very small area. Now if 2 of those speakers and tweets are going in the doors then awesome but might still not be enough amp for clean sound.
I'll look some stuff up in a little while when not at work just to verify and maybe a few suggestions.:dunno:

I'm planning on putting 2 of the mids in the doors and 2 of the tweeters in the dash. I was thinking of putting the other 2 mids and 2 tweeters in the cab corners. I've been told the amp would be plenty of power for all these components.

Let me know what you think, Mountain Man........ are you a stereo guy?

I second the "too many speakers" response.

Its a single cab truck. Set it up with a pair of qform kick panel pods for the mids, put the tweeters in teh stock dash location, or on the door pointed at the driver, and see how it sounds wiht 1 pair of components only. Pair of subs and a pair of components, properly powered, should be PLENTY for that truck.

To put it in comparison, i'm running 3.5's in teh dash, and 6x9's in the rear, plus a 12 in my suburban....and it sounds damn good. Could use a pair of door speakers.

Sorry for the late reply but yeah I've done many many stereos over the years. I fell in love with Hifonics amps a few years ago with great results. They measure amps by RMS power rather then by peak power as basically all other amp companies do, plus they are ohm stable to their rated levels.

If you wanted to run 4 interior speakers and 1 sub off your 5 channel you would have less problems. Watch out for tweets in a small cab they get really loud and squeeky if not adjusted correctly. I consider a tweet part of a single speaker btw.

I would say get a decent pair of 2-ways for the factory dash corner locations, then some decent 2-3 way for the doors, high & mids are already cap'd but still have sound control through a deck that has adjustable sound levels.

I was blown away at the difference in sound quality just the aftermarket dash speakers made, much clearer, crisper sound.

How about the same set up but with a pair of 6x9s in the back of the cab corners instead of the 6.5 components? Still keeping the 2- 10" subs behind the seat and one set of 6.5 coponents in the doors and dash? Same amplifier. Also, do I really need the capacitor? Pro and cons for the capacitor?

The big thing with the cap is taking those sudden impact loads off the alternator/battery. The hits from your subs can seriously destroy an alternator in very short order, especially the relatively weak alternators most of our trucks came with. If I was going to do anything using an amp, I would have a cap there.

I ran 6.5 components in form kick panels and one 500 rms 10 behind the seat and that was plenty of sound for my k10. However I'd recommend the components in the doors. Those qforms where a pain, reduced foot room, brake break pedal hit them and they dulled the mids. I currently moved the equipment in my suburban and put the components in the doors and they sound much better
