i have been loosing oil for some time now.. nothing too drastic... just kept adding it in as needed.. now i am going through 2-3 quarts per tank of gas!!! i checked compression psi's and i have 2 cylinders at 80 psi- instead of the 150 for the rest of them... those 2 cylinders are reading 75% leakage on the cylinder leakage gague too and blowing air out of the oil filler cap- bad rings!!! im guessin its time to go for more motor now.... i found a deal on a tbi 454 suburban... how hard is the swap??? anyone ever done it before??? im carbed now with a 350 sooo.. i guess i will have to pull the computer and stuff with the motor, and get new motor mounts.. how involved is it to do that??? anything else i need to get??? and also if i do get the truck i;m pretty sure it has a turbo400 trans and a 9.5 14 bolt... would anyone be interested in these parts??? thanks in advance for any help y'all can offer

Re: motor is dying on me!!! help please

???? nobody has done this??? any help please??? im gonna be walking soon if i dont get a motor!!!!

The computer is not going to be happy when you do the swap.

The first problem is SMOG. Depending on where you live.

The second problem I see, is if your 700R4 is computer controlled. There are aftermarket kits to control though.

If you get beyond these two problems, through out the computer, get a non-computer controlled carbuerator (Edelbrock 1406), and a Non-computer controlled HEI or something, now you MAY need to notch the frame for those Big Block headers to fit. Now the BB Headers require some new exhaust as the BB Headers sit lower than SB headers.

Sounds like FUN!

Oh yeah, your not worried about gas mileage are you?!??!

just do it

I would try and keep it TBI

bolting it in will be nothing
sounds like you are getting the whole donor truck?

i dont see anything on my 700r-4 that is computer controlled... maybe if i had a 4l-60e but it is a 700... the smog thing isnt too much of a problem and i will be keeping all of the original stuff if at all possible... i know the exhaust will need mods but i can always drive to the muffler shop with open headers /forums/images/icons/grin.gif ... why do you say that the computer will not be happy??? i plan on taking that from the donor truck too... maybe these are mute points... just checkin.. thanks in advance

Sounds like your set then.

If you get the computer, the TBI, the ignition, wiring and all the sensors (knock sensor, temp sensor, O2-I think, MAP-on firewall), sounds good.

Might want to take the Big Block radiator shroud too!
