hey can anyone help me ,Im trying to find the weight of my 74 suburban...Id like to tow it on a u-haul behind my half ton if possible

Thanks!

I have no idea about it's weight but for reference my 89 blazer on 1 tons with a custom rear bumper weighs in at 6200 give or take a couple pounds. My best guess is that you're close to that weight.

Mmm. In general, a half-ton won't be very happy pulling a full-size vehicle behind it. The brakes aren't terribly suited to the extra weight pushing you past stop signs, never mind the tongue weight on the rear end.

Out here, for instance, the rental places won't let get a big trailer unless you have a 3/4 or better.

Are we talking a U-haul dolly? Last I knew they only had them up to 5000lbs and they got really iffy when you mentioned fullsize trucks. I think Jagged also had a lot of difficulty fitting his K5's front on one.

Thanks guys.....Im meaning a u haul car hauler rather than a dolly. They have hydraulic brakes with a surge tongue so no need for a electric brakes controller. My half ton is a bit more, has an extra 2 leafs per side, overloader airbags and 14bolt semifloater. A fullsize truck BARELY fits, but it fits,U haul wont let you pull a fullsize unless you have a one ton or better, and trailer weight is 2100lbs,with a max load of 3900 making your gross tow load 6000 lbs. Ive towed a 90 halfton 300mi on a uhaul trailer with a 8' snowplow and 2 tpi 350's in the box, behind my halfton,Im sure thats way overloaded for my truck(on 33x14.5" biasplys),my hitch, the trailer, and my licence.....Maybe Ill look for a better way to tow it.

You might have to rent a large U-Haul truck and tandem axle trailer to haul your Suburban.
Have you thought of a 3 point hitch. Then you are pulling the vehicle, not carring it.I don't know how legal it is but if a buddy could ride in the suburban and apply the brakes when your tail lights come on. Then your brakes would not be overtaxed. Maybe check with the State Police for advice. There may be conditions or times when it would be more acceptable.

That is not legal at all. You cannot have anyone in a vehicle being towed or a towable camper even.

Funny you mention about the 3 point hitch. I started building one awhile back so I could tow my 32ft 5th wheel behind my truck without losing bed space,or behind my cube van or anything else big. Ive since sold my 5th wheel, but I plan to buy or build a nice tandem gooseneck(possibly even dually or tri axle) and a 8-10 ft or so truck camper,so Ill finish up that little 3 point hauler one day.

EDIT,BTW,the big sub has NO brakes,I removed the calipers and drums/shoes as they were siezed and needed to make it mobile
