Ok, I'm sure we've all heard the tale. An 80 year old man keeps his ol' 1979 Blazer in the garage and drives it 4 blocks, twice a week, for years and years... When ANYTHING went wrong he was anal about fixing it.....Like a new motor in 98, tranny rebuilt in 01, new springs and shackles in 07, along with new paint and yea, imagine a 5" thick file of reciepts for tens of thousands of dollars of work dating back to 1979.... The interior looks like it was driven off the showroom (well, almost). It's one of those finds you usually only hear stories about....Well I bought it, and if I told ya' the price i got it for.....:eek1:...:haha:

The question is....what to do with it. I'm really not a big off-roader, though I enjoy going to Moab and messing around on some of the logging roads up here in the mountains. It's probably a little far from being able able to throw it in a car show....but for what has been a daily driver, it's in unbelievable shape. It's so pretty and in such nice shape...it seems almost seems a sin to lift it and throw big wheels on it.

So, I'm looking for suggestions.
Can you say 'Smokey Bear mud-flaps'?

Thanks for any input....

the question is not is it a sin to cut up a nice truck. its what you want. you can do a slight lift and a little bit bigger rubber to enhance the look and beastliness of it. if you get the right lift and tires you don't have to cut fenders. also take the running boards off my opinion. sweet looken truck though.

Yep, the running boards were to help his 80 year old wife get in and out....they will be the first things removed. The white bumpers, very classic looking, but not for me....and the mud flaps...straight outta' 1979.

I'll post some interior pix and some close-ups when I clean some of the dust off.

BTW: the old man passed away, the adult son just wanted it gone....

:pimp:

its pretty sweet. my truck when i bought it had a 1 year old paint job. rebuilt motor and trans 15000 miles old. sweet truck with the only thing wrong with it was a few stains in the carpet. not after a year of owning it it has 6 inch lift 37's herculiner interior 14 bff and dana 44. and some other odds and ends. just trim the front of the fender and trimming the rear of it today. a new 241 is in the mail and ordering a SYE and new driveshafts. it should be pretty capable after im done.

When i bought it

There is no doubt that there will be escalation. I'm trying to think big from the start but still be able to use the vehicle for my needs. 50% of the time it will be used to tow a boat, raft or trailer to some destination...20% will be to get me back into where I want to be...30% will be DD and getting through the mountain snow. I live at 10,000 feet and there is almost always snow. But 100% of the time I want to turn heads and have something I'll like.

This will not be a giant money pit for me. A shallow money grave, maybe.... I am thinking I'd like 4-6" of lift (I don't want to have to mess with the steering in any costly manor). I like the look of 35" tires, would they fit with 4" of lift without cutting?

I'm trying to find a 'checklist' of thing's I'd need to consider for each level/type of lift and for tire/lift/amount of cutting needed....I'm totally new to this, obviously. (my other Blazer is a 90, stock condition)

I'm not sure which type of lift to get or the components involved. It's something I've not become informed about...but am guessing it'll be second hand in no time....

For instance when I look at this ad I'm not exactly sure what else I'll need to make this work:
Super lift 6" front lift springs for 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton. Comes with rear 4" blocks and brand new pair of rear pro comp es90000 shocks. He wants $200, and really, I have no clue if this is a good deal or not.

That's why I'm here....

I'm thinking about going with 35x12.5x15 tire. This may be a stupid question, will this fit on a 15x10 wheel, or do I need a 15x12?

Any input on tires, knowing my application?
How about between these:
Dick Cpk F-C II
BFG AT T/A
ProComp AT
MickeyT Baja ATZ

Anything negative about Rock Crawler wheels?

How will this roll with a GM Corporate 12-bolt and a 465?

Tough finding anything on tire size and clearance...not many on here are afraid to cut the sh!t out of their...well, pretty much anything....:eek1:

Still thinking 6" lift, but wanting to know if a 4" will be adequate for these tires (without cutting)?

Thanks for any input!!

Id lift the hell out of that beast and put 44" boggers on it ahahaha. Acually you could run a 15x8 rim on those tires.

Alright here's my opinion and i'm sure there'll be tons of guys that will chime in and put in their 2 cents as well.

I've got a 4" lift and 33" tires. it used to rub till i cut the fenders. It would only rub under situations where i was fully flexed. so 6" of lift will probably be what your looking for. it wont flex as well as a 4" but there are always going to be ups and downs to each set up.

The 35's on 15x10 wheels will look and work very well. of you try 15x12 the sidewalls will bubble out and look dumb IMO.

As far as tires go on the list you've got there here is my order from best to worst ( again IMO)
BFG AT T/A
MickeyT Baja ATZ
Dick Cpk F-C II
ProComp extreme AT

Here's a pic o my rig fully flexed
