i am trying to research what t-case would have come stock on an 88 k5... I am looking at one without a case, so i am doing research... thank you!!

Np241 I think. Before that the np208

ok cool. since i will be looking for and buying one, is there a specific tcase i should get? i need something that will bolt up to a t350... i dont have a welder for fab work... thanks again!!

Well a th350 wouldn't have been stock in an 88 as far as I know...

Take a pic of the adaptor housing so we can verify what tcase you can bolt up. 208 and 241s use the same adaptor housing.

ok. so it is most likely a 700r4? i will try to get the owner to send me some pics of it... i dont own it yet, but am interested... it doesnt have a tcase or front dshaft... he put in a new 383 stroker, body and interior are clean... im trying to figure out how hard it will be to replace the tcase and front shaft, but im thinking it wont be that difficult...

since the tcase is out, it gives me choices to replace it... i dont mind going back stock as it will see only mudding sometimes...

The 1988 was the last year for the 208 in this platform, they strated using the 241 in 1989. Either of these will physically interchange in this vehicle as well as the front driveshaft from any Blazer/Suburban that had the 208/241. Be mindful of the 241 you choose should you locate one, the mechanical speedometer model is rather hard to find and the electronic vss type will leave you without a place to attach your speedo cable.

great info!! thank you!! I will research and figure out how to tell the difference between the 2 cases so i will know what im looking at when i find one

Just look at the tailhousing cone. The 208s have an 8" or so base and taper out to a point at say a 30* angle Where the 241s neck down very fast and then have more of a cyclindrical long tail housing. (i dont care for the tailhousing on these, ive seen a couple snap, not enough webbing in my opinion). Both are alluminum.

If you pull from a donor truck you will probably need the rear driveshaft as well as the current one will likely be too long.

if i find a donor vehicle, im assuming i will need all of the bolts and hardware as well... do yall recommend pulling and using the bolts from a donor, or does a company make a hardware kit?

i hope this works... can you guys tell me what im looking at please?

And a TH350 at that.

Just on the short list you'll be looking for a t-case that mates to a TH350 (?), new driveshafts, perhaps new speedometer cable, and t-case shifter linkage.

lol i knew i was gona get some funny replies... its cool... i was wanting to know what type of tranny and a list of parts i would need, so thank yall for that!! i have more research to do... i am deciding rather or not to get this truck or not... the body and interior are nice... engine is newly built 383 (supposedly)...

i see the 4wd "light plug" hanging and the bottom of the 4x4 shifter... should there be another crossmember to support the tcase??

Just an fyi you cant just bolt up a transfer case to that trans. You will need a 4x4 trans.

No. Only one cross member holds the trans and tcase up. But you will need the W shaped crossmember IIRC
