Story of two '72 K5's build

Well, the rockers and quarters and floor pans are all welded in and smoothed out/primed. The pass. side box needs worked again as it got fudged when the tub fell:doah:

One door has had the skins replaced and all smoothed out and primed. The other still has some grinding to be done on the welds.

Still to be done: Bedline underside, Finish doors, then it just needs to be primed and it should be ready.

Threw the gas tank in, went around and tightend down all the bolts. I put together my new LMC rubber body mounts with the ORD 1" body lift. All i have to do is buy some rubber tube tommorow to finish up the fuel lines.

So, if all goes well tommorow the tub will be all the way done getting primed and i will have finished the fuel lines and the two halfs will finaly be one again.

p.s. Sorry gregg, i stole your BOLD headline idea, its just such a good attention graber.

Man, that looks nice Dave. What color are you going to paint this clean machine, or is this a future poll question?

Might be a poll question. That is the reason i have not bedlined the interior yet. I want to wait until i pick a body color before spraying the interior in black or grey, etc...bedliner.

Finaly got the body back home

Its been about 7 months now since the tub was removed from the frame. Although the quality of work on the tub is not really up to par with the likes of Gregg and Kurts projects i am super excited to see the tub back on the frame and other than the whole sanding and painting deal, the tub is about 99% done.

Used the boom from a wrecker to lift the tub and set it on the frame. From there i used a cherry picker to lift the front and/or rear as needed to get the body mounts and 1" body lift all lined up. All the body mount bolts are in throught the lift pucks and upper mounts. Just have to tighten them down. Still trying to wrestle in the door, the guy that helped with the body is coming by tommorow to show me how its done.

Blazer is now snuggly parked in the garage where i can do alot of little things out of the cold and rain.

And i threw in a picture of where the rear wheel is located in the wheel well for Kurt as he asked me about it a while back.

Lookin good! Is it gonna fit in the garage once the new rollers are on? The angle in that one pic looked like it was pretty close...

SuperDave...... your project may not be as "involved" but you'll be driving yours for about a year before I even get a chance to turn the key. :D

So just a small update or excuse for the lack of updates. The Blazer is kind of taking a back seat to life and the USMC right now. Me and the Wife are going to try sell our house and move into something larger, and i have been trying to turn my not-so reliable DD into a reliable DD. USMC has had me busy jumping out of airplanes and running endless miles in boots with a heavy heavy ruck in an attempt at a career path change.

Good news is that when we move i will be forced to get the D60 under the blazer and sell off alot of the old parts i have had laying around. A new, more streamlined garage without any of the old garbage lying around will be good for the project.

The Blazer is a patient mistress.....she'll always wait until you've got time. :wink1:

Dave, just remember that being Airborne- Air assault (not sure what the Marines call it) doesn't do your family much good if your body is shot 10 years down the road. All you gain is bragging rights with a story to tell. I got that from a old time E-7, BTW.

1. Family
2. Home
3. Job/ Career
3. Everything else

No such thing as a stream lined garage, if it's space-A...

So, did you make it through jump school? Nothing like falling down in saw dust for two weeks strait, then somehow in the third week shuffling to the door.

Airborne is more an Army term we just call it jumping out of planes. Its not jump school or jumping that will take a toll, Its the last 4 deployments and the next 5+ years that will take its toll. For us jumping is just one more method to insert a team into a hard to reach place.

So, did you make it through jump school? Nothing like falling down in saw dust for two weeks strait, then somehow in the third week shuffling to the door.

Yeah, Jump school was pretty cake. Wasnt physicaly challenging at all, more mentaly frustrating having to be around a couple hundred Army privates. But its almost all worth it on that first jump, its a pretty awsome experiance.

Of course it wasn't tough- the military is going through another stage... So you got a coach instead of a D.I..... They get to expain (pun intended) things. Well, it happens. Something about the computer era and all??
