Strange main bearing wear

I have done it before. The key is to not try to take a short cut by installing the bell housing to the motor and trying to stab the trans into the bell housing. You just have to have the bell attached to the trans. Then the alignment dowels do most of the work for you.
 
Also, when are you thinking about stabing? There is a small chance i would be available. Could always just bring it to my house so we can do it in the garage. :thinking:
 
Last two manuals I did were a PIA. Autos are just so much easier to deal with when engine swappin.

Not sure when yet. Its still my DD. I think I have to wait until I get a work trailer I can pull with the HO. Then I wont have to hurry through it.

Thanks for the offer on your garage. I have a carport and a nice flat driveway. I'm mostly just complaining cause I'm getting old and I want a heated shop with a lift. :haha:
 
And a crane!

I have found that the "easy" way to do it in general is to un bolt the motor mounts from the frame. Its only 3 bolts per side. And then stab the motor. Bolt it up to the trans with at least a couple bolts, and then slide the motor mounts in and drop the motor into them. Hopefully that makes sense... But its the easiest way of getting it all to line up.

Bearings are clevite p series

I have seen this kind of wear, the bearing had spun a hair and the little locating tab had moved out of it's hole and wedged the edge of the bearing against the crank.
Actually at one point it spun enough to seize the engine.
I spun the crank backwards then ran the engine for 2 more years.

It spun because I had a head gasket failure.
I put some leak stop changed the oil and ran it for 2 years.
It was a Mercedes Benz engine.
