Alright guys I've used every oil filter wrench I've ever seen to no avail, all it has done is tear up the filter housing. Now I'm down to nothing but the very top of the filter screwed on. I have been beating it with a hammer and screw driver for the last hour and a half even rigged up my own tool and NOTHING WILL WORK!

Here's what's left

The tool I rigged up (broke it)

It absolutely will not turn! Somebody please help!

Basically what I've been doing I will try jacking the truck up higher to give me more leverage. Other than that I have no idea what would work.

nah, you need to use the cold chisel flat against the base ring.. like your trying to chisel into the seal surface..

I get what your saying I have done that also do I need to go all the way through until I hit the seal? I really don't want to scar the surface and prevent a future seal.

When I was a kid I came across this. Used 2 longish screwdrivers to leverage the base around.

I did the oil change that caused it. I put the new (the one that stuck) filter on dry and torqued it good when I put it on.

Definitely learned my lesson on that one!

I don't see any hit's on that.. go right on that outer, raised rib, the clean looking one... go somewhat straight at it to make a groove, once it's catching good, start giving it more and more angle, as much as it can take without sliding out of the groove......

you can even try using it in those holes but it more than likely will just start splitting..

This one was from the PO to this day I've never done this on an oil change I did....but after this I can guarantee I think about this EVERY TIME I do an oil change I have been working on this filter for about 5 hours...i had other things planned to do to the truck today...

I see what your seeing I took that picture before I began hitting at the outer edge. Can't really get a pic that shows it. Guess I'll just keep beating the hell out of it and hope something happens...

I've had more than a few on the boats... I also like when people double up the seals accidentally... good luck..

If all else fails, rip it out around the inner holes, and carefully take a die grinder or dremel with cut off wheel and hit the threaded portion until you can split if off the threads.

Ive had to do it on steam plumbing pipes before. Sucks but if you are careful, it will work with out mucking up the male threads on the block too bad.

Was the only way to get the filter off the wifes 04 civic once

I'm going to get a longer chisel tomorrow and a heat gun and a longer chisel (keep hitting the frame and header right now...i had the header off yesterday for the spark plugs and really don't want to mess with that again...)

Eh, might not want to introduce fine shavings in that area. I've never had one that bad. Keep at it man, it'll come off. Good luck.

I had this happen to me once. The day a $50 on the spot oil change turned into 3 hours...

I did it exactly how Ryoken said. In fact Ive taken off stripped rusted lug nuts like that so.... get to it and hit it harder. A heat gun will help too.

THis happens to me on the wifes truck sometimes, but hers it at 90 degrees to the ground so it makes it a little easier, If it was me Id clean it of oil real good and rest and come back to it later so you can prepare yourself better. Cuts and oil and anger dont mix well..

Ugghhh I hate dealin with stuck filters. What a pita.

Last one took a bfh and cold chisel, Po had tightened the ever loving piss out of it.
