So, I read a one of Colby's threads about his hood bending and a lot of guys mentioned to lube the hinges. Chit, great idea, so I did it and it works real nice and smooth now. The problem now is, (don't know if it is related to the lube of hinges) when I pop the latch through the grill the latch moves but the hood doesn't "pop" up like it normally does and the hood won't open now. I try the ol' Fonzy fist bump and it worked a few times, now nothing. A) How do I get it open? B) What mechanism could it be that won't let it pop up the 1" or so to press the latch a second time to get it fully open? Any ideas what could be wrong as I have never taken the latch apart to see how it works. The hinge springs seem to be in fairly good condition as to give enough ummmph to pop the hood up like it use to do. Thanks.

Just lubing the hinges did that? Weird.

Mine has always had that problem, but it was because the hood wasn't quite square on the body and the latch pin was being forced into a bind. It's weird because since I fixed the rocker panel, the problem went away.

I had to press the lever and then pull the hood over to one side before it would pop up. Perhaps something similar is going on there?

There's only one thing that keeps it from coming up, and that's the pin that's bolted to the underside of the hood.

One other thing to try is to press the hood down a bit while pressing the lever to see if that'll unjamb things.

Brian. I think the lubing of the hinges was just an ugly coincidence to the current latch problem. I have tried to push and pull the hood in all directions while pushing the latch to no avail. There is really no play i the hood once the latch is pulled/pushed. It's like it is still fully locked. I just cringe to think I can't get it open and then take a drive and the rumbling of the truck while driving frees up the latch or problem and the hood slams open and really focks things up.:(

Mine used to hang up like that. Try pushing down on the hood just above the latch while you push the release lever. Should work. Mine quit sticking once I sprayed the s**t out of the release mechanism with penetrating oil.

Still no worky. I tried adjusting the pin assmebly on the hood to move it around a bit and nothing and sprayed the hell out of it and the latch with lube too. There is no play whatsoever when I press the latch to be able to push down on the hood since it is already sitting on top of the support pins at each corner of the rad support. I am able to get on the ground and poke the latch with a thin bar to monkey with the latch from below and then push up on the hood and sometimes it will pop open. I don't know. I can only work to fix things like this for short periods of times because things like this frustrate the chit out of me and just need to walk away for a day to get my mind right and start all over again later.

If you are able to open it sometimes, you can check a couple things.

1. Press the latch and check to make sure the metal catch inside the latch hole is fully retracting. If you press the latch in and there's not a clear shot down the hole, that's a problem.

2. As you close the hood watch the pin as it starts to enter the latch opening. If the pin is not centered in the opening(the hole), then you need to adjust the pin until it does using it's mounting bolts.

One thing that could make adjustment easier is to lower the rubber stop screws at the corners of the hood. That'll loosen up the hood and make it easier to shift it around while you figure out what the issue is. I was just fixing this same problem a couple weeks ago and those were helpful to me.

Thank Brian. I did see that the metal catch is retracting. It is not going all the way back; probably half way retracted. But I don;t recall if that is normal or if it should almost disappear. Would yo take a look at yours and let me know if yours retracts all the way or how much it actually does retract. I'm guessing it is just a minor adjustment that needs to be made. I'll try all your recommendations too. Thanks again.

My hood used to stick real bad and I had Mosesburb rebuild my Q jet.... He thought I had it set up thay way as a theft deterrent.... He adjusted the pin and it functions much better now?

Any progress? I am interested to know what it took to alleviate the problem.
