Stupid question I'm sure, but why not ford 9"

If you are running 33"+ tires stay away from a Ford 9" axle.

A "friend" was building a KOH racetruck and asked me what axles he should use, I said use the Chev Dana 60/14 bolt you have sitting in your garage. He ended up spending thousands of dollars on some cool guy bling'n 9" flipped axles that break at every race and he has 4 KOH DNFs.

My dad bought a brand new Bronco in 1978 and broke the 9" pinion support so many times, Ford quit fixing it and he swapped in a 5 lug Dana 60 rear in 1980.

The stock 9" isn't super stout, but it's design is good. That's why there is so much aftermarket support for it.

As for the hi-9's that your friend probably had, how much hp and what size tire? That is a race car we're talking about.

Saying nothing over a 33" tire on a 9" is crazy.
