Suburban

Who can tell me: this model - 1991 Suburban, old body type, with LL4 engine and 4L80E transmission - have electronic control for the gear box?

Yes, the 4L80E is electronically controlled.

When the engine is hot, it's start very hard (the light from the glow plugs is not work anymore, after first start!).

The glow plug controller samples engine block temps, and if warm enough the temperature inhibit switch stops the glow plugs from cycling. If the motor is even a little warm you pretty much don't need the glow plugs anyways. I have my glow plugs set up on a manual push button switch and only use them when the engine is cold.

Hard start when warm is most likely a problem with the injection pump. The shut-off solenoid gets sticky. To verify that is the problem pour some luke warm water on the IP when you have this problem...if it starts easily after that you found the problem. The solution if that is the problem, is to have the injection pump rebuilt.

IMHO = In My Humble Opinion

Ooops... I will try... Is not possible to change only the shut-off solenoid?
I'll look very carefully, to the other engine (I buy this car with a spare engine and gearbox), maybe I can fix somehow...

nice looking burb, cool to see one overseas. Btw no center console? I thought all of them with buckets had a center console.

Just curious: the '70's Blazer's, Jimmy's, Suburban's and Pick-Up's, have 4WD full-time; what type of transfer case they use? Wich one was better on-road, or off-road: 4WD full-time, or part-time? Why don't use anymore, 4WD full-time?

The full time 4WD models used a NP203 transfercase. I wasn't as strong as the other part time transfercase of the same era (NP205). NP203's are notorious for chain slippage as they wear, but aren't a bad transfercase really. They also had shifting issues, as the shifters were finicky and overly complicated. Part time kits were sold for NP203's, to convert them from full time. My truck used to be full time 4WD, but I converted it. I can lead to extra wear and tear on the front axle since it never gets a break. Front driveshaft is also always spinning, which can be bad in a lifted truck on the freeway (vibration is eminent). All the extra parts moving suck down more power and gas mileage too. I could feel the extra power when I converted my truck to a NP205, it was noticeable. I like the NP205 personally, no chain, rock solid gear construction, simple and reliable shifting linkage.

Also...
I liked the way the AWD handled on icy roads. They could lock down into a REAL 4WD also, at that point there'd be no performance difference off road in a stock case.
NP205's however, can also be twin sticked easily at home. This allows for the front output to be selected separatly from the rear output. This gives you many choices to include "2L" and front wheel drive. Can be pretty helpful in certain sticky situations.

My transfer case is NP241C, I understan is with chain. I never use my car with 4WD, until now, only 2WD. For this type of transfer case (with chain), what kind of oil it use: for automatic transmissions, or for mechanical transmissions?

I think '90-'91 were the first years for the 4L80E in the 'Burb at least.
My '91 gas engine powered Sub has a 700R4 in it.
