subwoofer sugestions

During a compition with my 2 12's RF, I blew every tail light in my car. My buddy had the same setup but he was in a truck. He split the windshield and popped his girlfiends stomach lining. Not to mention blood running out of his ears. His was powered by a big JL amp. Can't remember the size. The only sub I will tell you to stay away from is Sony Explodes. They really do explode. :D

when it comes to subs, there are only 2 words you need to know

Rockford ... and ... Fosgate.

Seriously though, I run 2 rockford stage 1's in my DD and they thump HARD. They are being pushed by a Rockfod P3001, and an Eclipse CD5425 head (deck).

if you are going to do a full system, dont skimp on the deck, it makes all the difference in the world.
I used to agree, but not any longer. I went through 8 10in HX2's until warranty was up. Garbage. And their new amps are junk IMO. They kick off non stop. Back in the day with the punch 200 they were hard to beat. Go with Kicker L7 or JL, or the upper MTX line. Once I went MTX ill never go back to Rockford.

Stay with people like RF, Kicker, JL and others who only make stero gear. If they make tv's and other stuff they are junk usually. And as stated above, they are old school punches. I have had many sets of subs but I keep the old RF's because they are bulletproof. I have a new set of JVC's here that I used for a little while and didn't like them. They are now collecting dust. Wanna buy them? :D

well i just bought a pair of 10" subs the rfz 1410s they are the old school rockfords, i used to have a pair of 12s that hit really hard, but then again i was running 800watts bridged to them in a sealed box, i will be running the same amp and a sealed box in my truck too

LOL, sorry... funniest post I've read in a while. While I doubt any of this post is true, if it is... anyone that would sit in a vehicle making that kind of sound pressure while its on, deserves everything that happened to them... its called cleaning up the gene pool.

*******Back to original Post********
As for your sub dillema, I concur with Z3PR... take your XTRs (awesome subs btw) to a reputable shop with fabbing skillz and have them make you a box, I'm sure it can be done.

i call b s on that post too, but what i am worried about with the xtrs is that they have a huge magnet on them, and they are way deeper than my old jl w1s so i picked up these fosgates and im sure they will hit hard, they are rated at 300watts max so i figure if i bridge them in a sealed box i can way overpower them with my 800watt alpine v12

You can call what you want on that post. I was there. Mazda cab and a half pickup with a crazy box taking up all the room behind the front seats. Now that I am thinking about it, it was a zapco amp and he fried the voice coils in the subs. The windshield had a stone chip on it when he started and it split the whole way up and down in the center. His gf's deserved it also, she is a car#@$ and only uses people. She was cheating on him with her ex. I have seen windows pop before, windshield seals pop and bulletproof windows pop in a armor truck with 30 15" subs. Seeing is believing. And as for my tail lights, the glass didn't bust but the wire in them all let go.

I've been into the "High End" stereos for a long time. Well, as much as I can afford too anyways. I'm sorry, but RF isn't what it used too be. You'll pay more for that RF name then anything else. I know not everybody has the money too spend on TREO Engineering, Digital Design, and the MMATS Juggernauts. You can get some pretty good middle of the line subs like the Kicker L7, JL's, and even the Kenwood subs can sound pretty good.

Im not impressed with the new fosgate stuff either, but i just bought some of the old school ones, i was very pleased with my old 12s that were the same model, ill let you know how everything goes

I would have to also agree with not going with Fosgates...had them, were ok, not a big fan and seemed to gain ALOT of noise from nonlinearity and sloppy-ness on quick loud notes.
I have gone with all Image Dynamics subs in both my SS (12" IDMAX) and the Blazer (2-10" IDQ's) I love the sound and they stay very clean at very high gain.
This is my setup in the blazer w/ the 2-10's in a box that goes into the fender a bit to save me some much used interior space....both are running parrallel off my 5150 Arc audio amp.

I have 4 MTX 5000's pushed by 2 JL audio amps in my Dodge 3500 tow rig.

The ballance of the system is 3 amps amd 13 component and center channel speakers. ( Boston accoustics and infinity )

Alpine head unit w/ Ipod interface module and remote control.
Over 2500 songs at my fingertips.

It Rocks,,I'm sure I'll be deaf soon,,, :eek1:

Thats sweet that you guys can get subs to play loud and clean in a car but lets see that same box in the back of a k5! Not so bad now are they? Its a whole new ball game now. I have 2 eclipse 8712.4 subs in a custom slot loaded box that will flex the side windows in the blazer over 1/2" when playing at full volume and thats with the front windows rolled down. The rearview mirror has been glued back on for the 4 time now{had to take a dremel and diamond bit to ruff up the glass so it would stay put. Worked for over a year now}. I have never ran the system at full power with the windows up for fear of popping the side glass out it hits so hard. So here is a little test for ya lets take your D/D and put my box in the trunk and let me turn it up running off my system I dare ya! Another little test for ya take your box and put it in the back of a buss and turn it up. Not so bad is it? Its all about sound clearity and spl if you have it you know what im talling about. I can play my system from barely auitable to full power with out any sign of distortion. lets see you do that with your R/f's. If your going to spend any money on subs do it right the first time. Remember That one good sub in the right box will sound better and hit harder that 3 lesser subs in the right box.

I had 2 12" MTXs in the back of my blazer and they hit real hard and that truck was loud and I couldnt even hear the truck with them...They are now going into a littly import...My friend has 2 10" Kenwoods in the back of his suburban and they sound good but dont hit u hard b/c the truck is so big...Another friend has a 12" punch in his truck and it hits hard.

aw come one all you guys that don't LIKE R/F....they are good speakers
I found that they work the best when you are stuck in the snow, and stuff them under your tires for a little traction help. :haha:

i used to be into the competition stereos. and i have used several different brands, including r/f..but have always found JL AUDIO to give you more boom for your buck, and a cleaner sound..

Now back in the day, the "big boomin pimp daddy" was the cerwin vega stroker..with the adjustable center cone..now that big boy rattled yer teeth..ilike i said i haven't been in the "sceen" for some times. and haven't seen the stroker in years...any of you guys remember it?

personally i like, JL, IMAGE DYNAMIC, and MB QUART..

i recently went to a well know stereo shop, and listened to the new fosgates and the JL w7's...both 12inch in size, both powered by the same deck, and the same amp..and the JL out thumped the R/F hands down..

I think too many people are spending time in thier local Best Buy or Circuit City. Look into a real competitive vehicle and see how much of the Fos-break is there. I can talk smack about them all day long. I should now. I competited with them and sold it in my store for over 5 years until the followed the lead and went big box. Their customer service and quality hit rock bottom. I've watched it with other lines also. I have been in the industry for over 11 years and have competed in DB Drag for the last 5 years.

I am amazed that no one here has screamed for Crossfire. For the price the P1's smoke arse. I'm put that sub up against the JL'w3 and L7 anyday and do everyday. We sell them all but as the numbers so Crossfire is taking them all in my area. It is funny though because I love MTX and sold it for years in TX, but you couldn't give it away for free in NM.

Treo and DD are some of the kings of the DB Drag world but not to wanted in my area. I would love to have the DD's in my Drag Car but can't seem to run something I do not carry in my store.
