Summit Racing Credit Card verification

A debit card with the Visa logo has the same benefits as a Visa credit card.

I hired a company to do a service and used my Visa debit card...they did not follow through on the service and I requested a refund...they kept ignoring it and would not give me a refund...I contacted Visa and they withdrew that money from them and returned it to my account. They will do that with unauthorized use also, just like a credit card.

Also, something everyone may not know, YOU can set a limit on your debit card for purchases if you are concerned about someone else using your card, authorized or not...of course there is always the $300 per day limit on atm withdrawals.

This is my understanding as well (per Dave Ramsey).

Yes, but what I was saying is using a CC instead, because when you make an online purchase, you type your CC number, exp date, address, name..etc. So if you were to enter all of this information and the business was not legit, they would have everything they need to try and use that CC. If they were successful, it's a CC, not your cash-money in your bank like it would be a debit/check card. So until you call your creditor/bank to get the problem fixed, you wouldn't have $0 in your bank account. You'd just have money charged on a CC.

If you can prove you did not make those purchases, they will reverse the charges from where they were made. Then the burden falls on the retailer who did not verify the correct identity...kind of like what Summit was doing so they were absolutely sure the correct person was making the purchase.

The best way is actually what I had when I had CC, they have a service for online purchases, they use temporary credit card numbers for one time use only that is linked to your CC, so if the merchant tries to use it again it will not work.
Everytime you wanted to buy online, you would go to your CC website and generate a CC number and use it for the purchase.
I think it was citibank that had that one but not sure if more banks now have it.

Great idea...

Why not just use a prepaid card, we have guys do that all the time with mail order items.

I wouldn't put Summit on your crap list because of this. I've ordered a lot of stuff through summit, good prices on good products and their return policy is great. Plus they've never messed up an order and they've gone out of their way to ship stuff from multiple locations to make sure I get it all fast.
I have a debit card with a visa logo that's tied into my checking account. Best way to pay IMO.

Summit has always treated me fairly until this event. My problem is that I've had that paypal account since 2001, it has always been linked to my bank account w/ direct draft. Since we moved into this apartment, no other retailer has had a problem with shipping to our apartment and billing our previous house (which my wife's grandmother now lives in). I don't have the time to drive back to North Carolina to change my billing address with my bank, only to turn around in 3-8 months and have to do it again after I graduate and we move again.

I'm not putting them on a permanent crap list, but I'm not going to send them important info like that over the internet. So until I have my family settled in a new long term address I won't be dealing with them.

make sure your paypal is verifyed. its easy to do.

as many years as i have used paypal i never had one problem. got verifyed first time i signed up years ago. its better in the end.

i bet thats the problem. non verifyed shows possible risk problems.

the verify charges a few cents to the acct its tyed to and sees if its all good/correct. if passes its good to go .

I have been flagged by paypal in a similar fashion before too, when spending a higher than normal amount in a short time. It sounds like you have been buying a good amount of parts in the recent days. It probably just happened to be summit who got the flag. Since you waited a few days and it worked at jegs I bet it would have went through with summit if you had waited and ordered the same day you ordered with jegs. Its a pain, but I will take that pain over ID theft pain any day. just my 2cents worth.
