I cut my NP205 (which is mated to a SM465) in half to make a Hi-Lo Reduction box so that i could use a right side drop divorced NP205 behind it. It is sweet e-mail me if you want pics. Cheap and strong i had to make do with what i had.

here is the link...prolly gonna be some good tech on it

Just looking at it i don't see how super cheap plays into the equation. You need to be able to weld cast iron (or pay someone to do it for you = expensive), need to make a doubler adapter since there is none available for a 205/205 (that i'm aware of), and i'm sure you'll be making your own shifters at this point also. IMHO my time is worth more than nothing and there would be ALOT of time involved to modify and make the pieces to make this work.

There is no adapter! its a 205 with the front drive portion cut off then another 205 divorced behind it. And you wouldnt have to weld it just drill and tap some hols and make a tin cover.

Oops, forgot it said divorced 205 behind the cut 205. Still looks like more work than is needed. Divorced 205's are very hard to come by around here.

For most guys though, twin 205's is going to cost a lot more. 203's are everywhere and worth nothing.

the good part about this is that elimantes the 800 to 1000 dollar adapter...plus its all junkyard stuff so its easy to fix and have spare parts for

Here is my divorced chevy case.
I just used a Chevy 27 spline case and put all the ford 205 internals in it.
Then made my own mounts.

The divorced case only cost me $125. $25 for the chevy 205 and $100 for the ford 205.

Hmm I may have to do this instead of giving someone 600 bucks for an adapter

They seem to be kind of common down here also, lots of people run them in their big gay trucks

Edit: with the 208 is it as strong? I've never taken one apart and haven't seen the insides

dude that is sweet! any finished up pics?

The pictures are as far as I got. I am still working on my driveshafts. Doing the 1480 dana 60 yoke thing.

I think the 208 will be strong enough. If I do break it I will switch over to a 241 and try that.

What is the shortest practical shaft between the range box and the t-case? I'm guessing this adds quite a bit of length to the drivetrain.

Not sure, but back in the day when they were first doing rear engine drag cars, I saw a few running a u-joint only. I'd think alignment would be critical.

I'm thinkin you would need a mini driveshaft with a u-joint on each end between the cases. With that plus the input/output yokes/flanges, I don't see the cases being much closer than a foot. Otherwise you need a precision machined adapter to get the alignment dead on and keep any flex from chaning the alignment, and there goes the cheap part.
