Superlift TRE's...

If you're going to get new ends on it, you may as well get a new sleeve. You will find most old sleeves are too rusty to thread new ends on it so its that much easier and cheaper to buy a new sleeve and thread everything together.

Plus, it will be a lot easier to turn the sleeve while adjusting for centering the steering wheel. That and the sleeves are pretty cheap.

I picked it up from him tonight and the sleeve is in pretty good shape. I'll use it to mock it all up and see where I stand then get some new ends... if it's a PITA to thread apart I'll get a new sleeve.

I got this whole steering issue taken care of today... I had to go to 3 places to get the parts but it's done and man does it steer great compared to the old setup.

I put a drop drag link on my D60 just to get the K5 rolling in time for the wheeling run today, and I must say, they truly do suck!

Crossover, here I come!

Yeah I never had a problem with loose or wandering steering but I did notice today that I pick up a lot more coming through the wheel, but in a good way. It's nice and tight (at least by push/pull standards).

I think I might look into an XJ shaft to help tighten it up even more, but for now this'll do... it's 100X better than the old setup at least. :wink1:

Do the drop DL just flex while steering or something? Ill take your word that they suck, its been far cheaper for me since I started learning from others mistakes, than making them myself:D. Im just a little curious.

I started with a drop DL so I never really knew any better but like I said above it just seems a lot more responsive now. I ran on the street and through the dunes (although the suspension was really stiff so it didn't move enough to mess things up) without any problems but I had some issues with near 100% loss of steering in situations like this with the drop DL.

Same problem here -- Flex was hugely affecting my steering. Truck was turning right, even though I had the steering box at full lock left!

Our wheeling is nearly 100% technical, almost always at full flex, so that proves to be a serious problem

Now I see. Glad you could use the sleeve to get it done. Looks like you might end up needing one more leaf in the pack after a while.

Nah, I'll go out and flatten the suckers during the New Year's festivities at Pismo so I can start thinking big picture when I get home... I'll take the camera. :deal:
