I have about 100 lbs. of DIY4X parts. B52's, shackle frame eyes hanger, shackles, diff covers, motor mounts and a bunch of other parts.

I'm gonna sandblast everything at the same time. I did a piss poor paint job on some of the parts last year and will be starting fresh. I put the zinc chromate, primer and topcoat on way too heavy and when I torqued the diff cover down the paint raised up and chipped off around all of the bolts.

I have the Moeller Zinc Chromate rattle can paint and will lightly coat all pieces after they've been sandblasted and wiped down with lacquer thinner.

What kind of primer? Just some good 'ol rustoleum grey primer for metal?

What kind of rattle can topcoat would be good for longevity and rustproofing? Not interested in brush-on POR.

I was thinking about using engine enamel, I've also heard good things about VHT Roll Bar and Chassis paint.

I've got plenty of Rustoleum flat black rattle can, best to just use what I've already got on hand?

I used green high temp engine enamel paint from Oreilly's to paint all the suspension parts on my truck and even the frame. It has been going on 6 years since I painted the frame and other than being young and lazy at the time without doing any prep work on the frame it has stayed in tact for the most part. After I swapped to one tons and the bigger lift years later the axles, suspension parts, etc. I was a little more detailed with and sanded, primed, painted them like your supposed to and has stayed extremely well. Even after leaving mud for 2 months caked on them they still shine like new when all cleaned up. the only places it's showing signs of abuse is where parts cleaner, PB blaster, oils, beer ... have dripped or ran down to them from doing odds and ends motor work over the years.

I use NAPA Chassis Black for my chassis parts, it is a semi gloss black that covers well and is durable. Comes in big spray cans with a nice spray pattern.

Did you prime before spraying it on or is it one of those paint you lay on bare steel?

I use the same Napa spray on my stuff. Its holding up well and when you drag it you can just quickly respray the rash.

I have used it over primer and also bare, seems to be holding up well either way. I would not consider my stuff as being used in extreme fashion or extreme environment so I may not be the ultimate test bed for this kind of thing but it hasn't let me down.

on the bare steel I use

rustoleum self etching primer 249322

rustoleum satin black 7777

Whatever is on the shelf

If im buying at the store, I get rustoleum enamel in a spray can. Wiped down, primer, paint.

When the time comes I'll probably use Imron paint. I figure if it holds up on a bulldozer it shouldn't have any problem on my truck.
