Swap 203 out 208 in ??? Semi emergency

Well, the 203 busted in the '75 on the way home from work tonight. Had to tow 'er in.

Question is: I have two 208's out of '82 pickups. Are the spline counts the same?

Are they swappable without alot of little time consuming problems?

Everything is Turbo 350 transmission, old and new.

Should I try swapping the transmission too though the '82 trans is questionable about lasting very long, the '75 trans should be a better choice if the spline count is right?

Is it a just drilling new holes for the cross-member?

I can get the U-joints locally for old/new style.

Alot of other stuff to do and still get to ECBB 05!
 
i hope you have drive shafts for that 208, rear will be slip yoke and front will be shorter than the 203 shaft.

Yea, I have the whole truck pretty much. Only one '82 trans though, that's why it's questionable how good of shape the '82 trans is.

The drive shaft would be to long though, just planning on using the yoke.
 
fyi the splines are the same. but i think the stick out of the shaft is shorter than the 208 for the 203/205 combo. sorry.

Stick out of the shaft?
 
You will need the TH350/208 adapter and also like said the shafts will be different lengths and the rear being slip and you will also need the T-case shifter.
 
the output shaft from tranny . from the back of case to point it ends. 203/205 are about 3/4" stick out 208 is more .

So, you would say the transmission output shaft is different and to swap both?
