Swapliftication of the '89 Burb

I went to 3/4T springs on my 1/2T 2wd 'burb just because they rode too soft, and the back sagged. I actually just added a leaf in from another set of springs to make them match my 3/4T 'burb. They don't ride rough at all IMO.

followed your advise throttle issue's and went to my favorite secondhand store (creative auto recycling service) and picked up a set of 3/4 ton 63" springs.

also picked up hydraulic brake booster from same truck. i am hoping it matches up to my stock booster location. it had the abs computer in it but that got left with the brake lines.

finished mounting the 36" swampers picks tomorrow after it gets abath. looks ten times better.

these are all in 2wd as my left front hub is locked in the free position. gotta fix that so i can take the in-laws wheelin' next weekend. should be fun, they've never been offroad before. the sway bar is connected too. it rubbed the back of the fender on the drivers side enough to bend in the trim slightly. did good though.

the last pick is some of the trash i was able to fit in the burb from the trail.:angry1::angry1: lazy sloppy people suck. on the flip side i might salvage the grill to attach to one of the barndoors. after some serious cleaning of course.

i want to finish my bed trailer so i can do this more often. this was on the roan plateau in rifle. maybe i can commision the local scout group to build a sign to remind people.

Figure out your tie rod issue?

I forgot to add as far as dropping the case, my rig has got 4" of lift under it and the slip yoke barely moved out of the t-case.

thanks for the props guys!

didn't end up dropping the tcase. so far no problems on either end and no vibration. except when i get into uper rpm ranges, but i think that's because the 366 is probably due for a new harmonic balancer.

i did figure out how to address the tie rod issue.

i'll give three clues: 60, 56, 1" spacer

for right now i'm just running with the tie rod slightly contacting springs under compresion. bad for tre"s i know.

Might also be the front pinion angle, mine is quiet up till about 60mph and then the front shaft hums a bit with the hubs locked in.

the pinion angle on the front axle is tweaked a bit, but it has never been in 4wd due to the driver hub being stuck in the free position, so i didn't think the pinion would be turning.

i guess it could be the rear shaft though. the 4" flip and 6" shackle have the pinion up a little too high.

have a dodge 60 lined up but i am going to pass until i get a chevy 60 so i don't have to mess with the sping mounting plates. that and then the axle will have a 69" wms instead of 67". less headache.

so to keep busy i started working on the rear bumper. i am using 2 x 3 x 1/4" for the part that goes from wheelwell to back corner to other corner and back to wheel well. a 4 x 4 x 3/8" for a hitch reciever mount, and 1/4" frame plates. there will be two reciever's mounted in the 2 x 3 for a winch mount, or whatever. pics tomorrow as i am sure this only makes sense in my head.

ok been working on the back bumper still got to do the side rails and ramp mounts for the dogs, as well as the tank skid and removable winch mount seen in the third pic.

thanks y5mgisi

got to experience death wobble for the first time. kinda scary when you're towing a 3000 pound 20' foot trailer loaded to the gills with scrap metal. so no more major towing until new front axle is in.

did some work with the burb today. went and got 3700# of compost for the garden today with a dump trailer from work. it was a hard pull both ways with a tranny starting to slip a restricted motor. we grossed 16k not huge but enough to test the bumper a bit. did well. got her home and noticed a leak on the passenger side. it was the return fuel line leaking directly over the header.:doah:

luckily no fire as i hadn't put a fire extinguisher back in it yet. .

new fuel lines from napa $150.

gonna start prepping the 4speed and 205 combo to replace the 700r4 and 241, so if any one's interested in the latter combo with a maghytec pan on the tranny, for $300 let me know.

i hade one of my lines leaking right on my muffler about 30 miles from anywhere ... talk bout scary i just new i was gonna have a fire but got home lucky and safe...

changed the fuel lines, now i have a shirt that has the faint aroma of unleaded 85. btw i must have not messed with gas in a while cuz i am pretty sure it didn't give me chemical burns last time. washing arms and apply sunscreen seemed to relieve the sensation.

update swapped in a tighter 10 bolt front axle, now i have 4wd!!, since the hubs work on this axle and the u-joints aren't shot.

in the process of swapping in a clutch pedal assembly and a hydro boost unit from a '93 chevy 3/4t. gonna require some mods but so far looks doable. i'll post pics of mods if interest exists.
