swapping a detriot in place of a gov loc.

I'm getting a van 14ff for the jeep and want to swap my current detriot into it. I also want to change gear ratios as I do it. whats cheaper money wise.

swap my current 14ff into the burb with the current detriot and 4.10s and just buy a new detriot and some 488's or 513s for the van width one? or swap everything around just to keep the current detriot in the jeep?

does the van width 14 bolt have the gov lock? if so you can't put a detroit in it, you need an open carrier. I am confused too

you will need a new carrier for the 14ff with the gov-lock to be able to put a detroit in it

i wanna put a detriot in the gov loc'd van axel.

I did that with my Gov Lock axle. I yanked the carrier out of a donor axle and installed the detroit with my Ring gear on the new carrier. I haven't had any probs with 1200 miles on it so far.

Can you use any carrier for your gear range ie 4.10 and down (numerically) or does it need to be the same gear ratio? In other words can I use an open carrier that came out of axle with 3.73 gear ratio, for mine with a 4.10 ratio?

Also, any difference between the newer and older styles? I have the later style 14 BFF with all the vanes on it?

What Shannon said. The lockers are the same. The difference is in the install kit. Different bearings, etc.
