Sweet Look for this 1990

How's it handle the rear corners?

Lots and lots of heat before pulling the tape cover off will help set the moulding in place. A hair dryer might do it, at my shop we use industrial heat guns or infrared lights. It might even require some tape to hold it for a few hours while the moulding cools and takes shape.

I think NAPA also has rolls of that moulding available. You should unroll it and let it flatten out before trying to put it on. It would be best to wait for a nice hot sunney day to do all that.

Thanks!

$30 Harbor Freight heat gun. Works great.

I think RJB's Blazer looks just as good, if not better than the one from the movie. Especially when you consider that the bkac truck was brand new 20 years ago. Who was in that movie - Clint Eastwood? Let's compare how he looked in 1990 to how he looks today. Whoa. I think the Blazer fared a lot better.

I'm going to do the same. But I'm wondering about the chrome wheel arc mouldings specifically. They are different than the '73-'88 ones. I had them on my truck before but they weren't in good enough shape to salvage. Here is a pic of mine before I had it repainted:

EDIT: I see you responded to this question already in another thread. Thanks RJB44

After all the crap that was under mine...leave them off. They look pretty...and hold salt, sand, grit, grime, mold, shmutz, and other fun stuff there...against your metal...causing rot. Be rid of them!

Yes, the rear corner molding pieces were exclusive to 89-91. You can't make the molding work in that lower position (88- was lower and straight) with those corner pieces. Otherwise, you have to just roll regular molding around the corner a little higher up - but there are issues with that. There is barely enough room between the tailight and the body curve and it looks like the molding should extend across the bottom of the tail-gate.

Maybe LMC has the corner pieces. I got mine from GM SPO back in the day and have hung on to them ever since, carefully cleaning the tape and re-applying whenever they have needed to come off. There are little screw holes in them, but there is no good reason to use those holes unless the fender is already drilled. 3M tape is fine. For the sides, the aftermarket roll of molding is fine. You can re-use molding, but it is a pain getting all of the old foam tape off. Plus, if it is a cut roll, you get a bit of oxidation in the chrome on each cut over the years. A $40 roll can do a whole K5.

Sorry, I must have put it in the wrong thread. Glad you got the info.

This GMC looks like something the US Secret Service would have used, although in all the photos from that era, I only saw the Black Suburbans, never any Blazer's or Jimmys (in motorcades). Although it looks very "official" looking - it’s not even a Government or Fleet model truck. The the front grill would have only had single, not dual headlights. It also has cloth interior - not the vinyl.
