I've always liked GM's best ,whether it be cars or trucks--the fact there is so much interchangeability among years and parts makes them the most economical to own and repair, and even swapping engines from other models (Caddy into Chevy's,etc) isn't all that difficult.....you USED to be able to find dozens of parts trucks close to home for cheap money, and at swap meets,etc.............................................................................................unlike Fords, which seemed to change everything year to year, and had to stick with parts intended for each particular engine and chassis--only thing Ford did "right" as far as 4x4s was to use one basic configuration on the input shafts and bolt patterns on T-cases,GM had way too many different adapters, spline counts and different trannies available............................................................................................As I have aged though,my "hatred" for Fords has waned some, they did have some decent engines, like the 289 & 302,and the 300 six was one of the best inline engines built, and I wouldn't refuse an older Ford pickup with those drivetrains...the C6 was equal to a TH400,and the 9" rear axles are legendary for strength and durability.......I just dont care for the looks of most Ford trucks though, the ones built before 1979 are the best looking in my opinion...............................................................................................I wouldn't mind a Dogde truck either--their slant sixes were indestructable, and the 318's were a good small block,I liked them as much as a 350 chevy, and the old Torque-Flight trannies were pretty tough too..an older Power Wagon would be what I'd like if I had a Dodge truck....I liked their big blocks too,the 383 and 440 and the early Hemi's are cool and powerful.............................................................................................I feel Toyotas are way too overrated --they rusted away to crumbs so often they ended up buying many trucks back,or replacing frames, etc, and trying to find a used one ,even one 20+ years old any good is tough, and the owners have outrageous prices in mind for an old beat up rotbox ,you can buy 2 or 3 good GM trucks here for the price of one well worn Toyota....other imports seem to have the same "owner loyalty" too, when they do go up for sale, they want top dollar for a hunk of junk..............................................................Jeeps??..Eh!---I like the straight sixes and their B/W trannies in the older ones, but their rear axles sucked, and like Toyota's,every "used" Jeep I see for sale has been beaten and neglected, then shined up and put out for sale for an outrageous price..what gets me,is people BUY them!...I would not mind having a CJ to plow with, but to use daily to commute,etc--no thanks...If I ever got one,it'd have to be real cheap and rust free--seen too many with rotted frames to be too enthused about having one really...
