Switching brands

anyone ever think about switching brands?

Like to say........ Toyota? or Jeep maybe even Ford? They all have solid axles (or had) reliable engines at some point (well maybe not ford) Gear driven transfercase (mainly older versions)

toyota yes but the only reason is because they are smaller.

Then I go wheeling again and I realize that to most of the super built toys are about on the same level as Horton is already and all of us want a buggy rather than a truck ( or whatever form of truck we have left)

I would go back to a zuk given the chance but it would be mostly buggy, would pretty much use the body and most of the drivetrain but build my own frame and use toyota stuff for axles.

Jeep naw, not really, I would rock an old CJ7 or a flattie but more for mild wheeling status and my Jimmy fills that role much better.

I have always wanted a scout 800 though.

I am not a big Ford guy though I could see myself in a Dodge but probably not a Ford.

I just like the way the Chevy products look, thats really what it boils down too

You could only get me into an old international, or possibly a cherokee or comanche. I want to find a comanche for a dd badly, I think it would be cool to have a mild lift on and use as a parts runner and daily.

Well i picked up the 4WD Toyota magazine, and some seem pretty cool.. I cant get into Jeep at all for some reason and I know how Fords are built and they just suck.

Does it appear to you that every brand is just worn out and burnt out on design..everyone has the same thing, if its not big lifts, its flexy coil suspension...

I love the old chevy and hope to find one, cause my new chevy is pissing me off. But i also think and older Toyota is a Candidate....

I could do something International, or an old Cherokee/Wagoneer... but that's pretty much it. And if I had something like that long enough, it surely would end up with GM powertrain.

Doesnt everything end up with GM drivetrain in it anyways lol:D

I've been a Mopar guy. and a long time Chevy guy... but I've never been a Ford guy, never had one.... I tend to stick to brands cuz it's what i have a garage full of parts for...

well im going to say i hate all jeeps and all fords and their owners jeep owners are just soooo snotty and when they do something that a average 4x4 can do and then they get all cocky and when you wanna race em or hook up to em they back down with an excuse

you'll outgrow it... from 15 to 25 I THRIVED in an environment of my 340's taking on any BB mill in ANY brand... lived for it... heck, in my late 20's, I specifically built a BB Chevelle, Fox body killer with the sole purpose of eating Mustangs...

these days, I'm not a Ford guy, but whatever floats your boat... heck, I love a first gen Ford clip... not a fan of any Ford mills, tho I do respect the SB that is known as the 302...

hehe im ohnestly doing tunes to my truck to whoop up on my brothers ram. me and my brother get in arguments every few days over our trucks. hes a dodge ram guy im a k5/k10 guy. we have been in physical fights over a little **** talking bout our trucks right now ive got my 87 k10 stepside 350 4 inch lift 35s stock motor and 700r4, he has a 2001 ram 318 5 speed sct tune. one night me my bro and some buddys got a convoy of 7 trucks to go wheelin. in front of me were my brother in his ram and my friend with gmc 2500 6.0 dual exhaust and behind me was a jeep cherokee 5 inch lift and a 95 silverado 350 5 speed 35s no lift. so my bro and friend are drag racing in front of me, so i decide to try to keep up behind em soo my friend in the gmc blows the doors off him then once my friend is long gone i creeped passed and i was at 70 and still accelerating this was before my tune up and with a major vacuam hose un hooked at the time and by the way i blew doors off the 95 silverado 350 5 speed and cherokee 5 inch lift i was pretty proud of my truck that night cause i had the oldest and tallest truck

I've owned some of almost everything :dunno:, they all had some good models/ era's and some bad. I always have and always will have a soft spot for square body GM's :D (I'm on K5 #9 ) , and there are models of almost every brand I would jump at the chance to own (again). Jeep- Comando , Buick- Regal T type/ GN , Toyota - solid axle 4runner, Ford - 77 Bronco , another Willys wagon , Dodge - another 12valve, Suzuki -Sami.
For me it's not the brand, but the vehicle itself, heck, it's not like I could leave anything stock so who cares how it started out :thumb:

We DD a 2004 toyota Tundra, and LOVE it.... :D

I have a friend named NorCal_Chris... He has a Jeep.
He's also NOT snotty...

Maybe he'll chime in...

Damn, I guess you hate me then. I owned a YJ, ZJ, built a XJ, and 2 79 Cherokees. I tow what's left of my K5 with a F250. I also wheel a 4 linked box Bronco on 42's every chance I get. Didn't realize I was that snotty and if you want to race or hook them up, I'll let my wife put you to shame. :haha::pimp::thumb: Oh, and I used to have a 93 Toyota too.

i didnt say all jeep owners r snotty im just sayin that most younger jeep owners around here are pretty snotty because most of the kids with jeeps around here are little rich boys that got mommy and daddys wrangler after a new one came out. i know a ton of cool jeep owners, and i dont hate anyone on this website

As to the origional ?. I would never build another full sized rig to wheel. If I would have known 12 years ago what I know now I would just have built a tube chassis. I would own another Jeep or Toyota for a driver. As far as Fords go, I love my F250. I bought it cheap, drove the snot out of it for the last 4 years towing anything I put behind it, and overall it owes me nothing.

I'd have a hard time wheeling anything other than a GM, I've got too many broken ones for parts. And I like a challenge. Jeep size trail? My extended cab limo will probably fit.

As for a DD, my first one was a GMC, second a Nissan, third a Ford, and now I'm driving a Dodge. No brand loyalty here, I just buy things I like.

i have to agree with this statement. honestly. i know a bunch of jeep guys that thinks their sh*t don't stink. anything that i show them up at, they shrug off and still say 'jeeps do it better'.

i have one friend who is, or was, a die hard chevy guy. got in fist fights due to brand loyalty. chevy's are a family thing. they have had 3 el caminos on blazer frames as plow trucks, a plethora of 80's and 90's pickups, a nova, corvettes, etc etc.

WELL, he bought a jeep and all he spouts off is jeeps do it better. yeah......that's why i pulled him off 3 different spots he got buried, in under a week.

i'm not saying anyone here is like that, because honestly i don't know. i don't hate on other people's rigs unless they're deserving of it.....i'm even nice to ferd owners.

I wouldn't hesitate to get into a Toyota, plenty of aftermarket support out there. Solid axle swaps on them aren't bad either. This is important because you can't find an original solid axle one around here.

Jeeps just don't do it for me. It seems the Wranglers and XJs have been done and done and done. At this point it's like once you've seen one, you've seen them all. Except the ZJ/WJs. For some reason or other they look good all jacked up on 35s or so. I'd consider building one for myself.

Nissan Frontier/Xterra is another I'd consider. Good aftermarket support for them and they look good with a solid axle swapped in too. Pretty reliable mechanically like the Toyotas. But also like the Toyotas, you have to watch out for rust. Plenty of them out there with manual trans and supercharged versions too.

I've always liked GM's best ,whether it be cars or trucks--the fact there is so much interchangeability among years and parts makes them the most economical to own and repair, and even swapping engines from other models (Caddy into Chevy's,etc) isn't all that difficult.....you USED to be able to find dozens of parts trucks close to home for cheap money, and at swap meets,etc.............................................................................................unlike Fords, which seemed to change everything year to year, and had to stick with parts intended for each particular engine and chassis--only thing Ford did "right" as far as 4x4s was to use one basic configuration on the input shafts and bolt patterns on T-cases,GM had way too many different adapters, spline counts and different trannies available............................................................................................As I have aged though,my "hatred" for Fords has waned some, they did have some decent engines, like the 289 & 302,and the 300 six was one of the best inline engines built, and I wouldn't refuse an older Ford pickup with those drivetrains...the C6 was equal to a TH400,and the 9" rear axles are legendary for strength and durability.......I just dont care for the looks of most Ford trucks though, the ones built before 1979 are the best looking in my opinion...............................................................................................I wouldn't mind a Dogde truck either--their slant sixes were indestructable, and the 318's were a good small block,I liked them as much as a 350 chevy, and the old Torque-Flight trannies were pretty tough too..an older Power Wagon would be what I'd like if I had a Dodge truck....I liked their big blocks too,the 383 and 440 and the early Hemi's are cool and powerful.............................................................................................I feel Toyotas are way too overrated --they rusted away to crumbs so often they ended up buying many trucks back,or replacing frames, etc, and trying to find a used one ,even one 20+ years old any good is tough, and the owners have outrageous prices in mind for an old beat up rotbox ,you can buy 2 or 3 good GM trucks here for the price of one well worn Toyota....other imports seem to have the same "owner loyalty" too, when they do go up for sale, they want top dollar for a hunk of junk..............................................................Jeeps??..Eh!---I like the straight sixes and their B/W trannies in the older ones, but their rear axles sucked, and like Toyota's,every "used" Jeep I see for sale has been beaten and neglected, then shined up and put out for sale for an outrageous price..what gets me,is people BUY them!...I would not mind having a CJ to plow with, but to use daily to commute,etc--no thanks...If I ever got one,it'd have to be real cheap and rust free--seen too many with rotted frames to be too enthused about having one really...

If I had the money, I'd rock a new 4 door Rubi with some kind of small lift. I couldn't get rid of the blazer, too much money in that, plus I can TOW sh1t with it. The Rubi, nope, not what I want to tow. My DD is smashed and starting to have little problems here and there. I'd replace it with the Rubi, if money happened to fall out my back side.
