T-case ID help

Need some help IDing my TC. The shifter says 2H, 4H, N, 4L. This is in a 86 burb 1/2 ton. Also what is the proper way to shift through the gears on the shifter. I can get it to go into each gear but it seems I have to hold my tongue just right to get it into nuetral and 4LOW and then back out. So what is the proper shifting procedure?

If the shifter is all the way forward to be in 2hi then you have a np208 which I'm sure it is my 83 had one. You can be sure by looking on the back of the transfer case there should be a round 'tag' with a screw holding it on in the middle....that will have the model stamped into it.

 

[4X4HIGH]

If it is stock it will be a 208. You can shift them on the fly between 2H and 4H but in order to go to 4L you need to have the trans in nuetral then make the shift and put the trans back in gear.
