On my truck, the small cylindrical spacers have been placed between the frame and the crossmember itself, I'm assuming due to the lift. I've read a few times on here that doing that can cause frame cracks around the spacers, I'm assuming due to the load being placed on a much smaller surface area than if the crossmember was actually touching the frame.

However, before I find a local fabricator to make me two chunks of rectangular metal to replace those sleeves, are there any other ways, or more accepted methods, to drop the crossmember?

Go to lowes and get some square stock and cut it to size, then drill the holes and put them in.

Didn't even think about that, but I do have access to a shop with the goodies I'd need to make that. 1" box stock work? Or should I get solid stock?

Solid is probably best, but as long as it has a decent wall (3/16" ish) tube should be fine

ive got a piece of 1x2x12" aluminum around here for doing this... just havent gotten to it yet
