Just did an engine exchange on the Jimmy and I noticed on start up what seems to me to be an excessive amount of moister out the exhaust. I'm thinking head gasket or warped heads? Or is it normal? What is kind of strange its only at warm up and out both sides? I did put some old gas it and I'm not sure just how old and free from moister it is. I should also add that it runs great and doesn't stumble or miss at all. For some reason the engine water temp gauge has decided not to work so I will run into town and get one tomorrow. Not sure if it's running too hot or not? So how much moister is excessive out the exhaust and how much is normal? Also the engine hasn't been started in years so I'm wondering if there is anyway to check it out for water leaks? It is extremely humid here right now but cant believe that would have anything to do with it? There is no sign of water in the oil... Ideas?

A large cloud of smoke with a sweet coolant smell would be a problem. Small puffs of moisture out the pipes that dissipates quickly is normal. Especially at first start up and until it gets up to operating temp.

Thanks guys, Just put this engine in and new tailpipes as well. A little drip or two I could understand but this was an actual little puddle. I've went ahead and drove it this morning and it seems just fine?

Mine does this every morning, especially if you have no cat or increased compression it is normal

You could always try tasting it..........
If its sweet and destroys your liver, its got a coolant leak.
If its normal condensation, it should taste exactly like fresh Possum urine...........

Ok, I will jump on it.....

How do you know what fresh possum urine taste like? And ore to the point how do you know the difference between fresh and stale?

The only way to be sure is to get it fresh from the possum....

As for how I know..........Probably best you don't know that......

But, I bet this lady knows!

equation for the combustion of gasoline and oxygen. over simplified because "air" is not pure oxygen (just 21%), you've got several other gases such as nitrogen (actually the largest part, making up 78% of air), argon, carbon dioxide, and trace gasses. (the remaining 1%), but you get the idea.

2 C8H18 + 25 O2 --> 16 CO2 + 18 H2O :waytogo:

Someone has been studying Redox equations lately........

Been a long time since I had to balance one of those...

haha, naw, I'm just a nerd, and used to tutor chemestry. I havent "needed" to do one in a long time. but still do em for random thoughts.

but to be honest, i just googled, copied, and pasted that isht ;)

I had high hope for that second video. That woman's definitely falls into the bat-**** crazy category, but damn does she have a sense of humor.

Isn't most of this moisture out the tailpipes from condensation.....take cold exhaust pipes and blow hot air through it. The colder it is outside the more water you get dripping from the tailpipes. Same concept as a glass of ice water sitting outside in the sun.

Yeah think that is some of it! Even though its hard to emagine it when its 95 Degrees outside! LOL
