I have a few questions. I want to take the top off my Blazer and its only been off once, 15 years ago. Is it most likely that the seals have rotted and I have to replace if I don't want my Blazer to leak? I'm really low on money and I really wanna take the top off but I don't wanna be stuck in a situation were I have to spend money. Also, does anyone know how much weatherstriping is for the side sliding windows? Thanks ;)

When I read the post I thought you were going somewhere else with the thread...:) anyway, its not too bad and its worth it when things don't leak. I took my cap off after almost 20 years and the seal was in good shape. As long as your careful and put it out of harm's way it should be ok. Just check the seal before you put it back on.

A smear of vaseline on the seals makes em seal up real nice again later. They don't generally rot due to time...they're very protected from direct sunlight.

I've pulled the tops off of 7 of the 9 blazers i have ever had and only one leaked after putting the top back on but if i remember correctly that one leaked before i took it off too, never replaced the seals on any of them.

Now go read and get part numbers my young grasshopper!

Being that I am replacing all seals on my own 86, and LMC doesnt have the slide seals (unless you buy the entire assembly, glass and all) - I was wondering where I would find the pieces.

Thanks Metrodps !

Also, I am currently trying to remove the top and it's hard as hell to get off. It isn't budging. I removed all the bolts and everything, is their something I can do to loosen up the seals or something? Thanks

There are more bolts than you think.

IIRC, there is one each side at the very back, upside-down, i.e. from the bottom up ... maybe with some stupid Torx head?

It's a PITA, but you might pull one of the bed interior panels off and look back there.

Alignment pins, one on each side, of my 86.

They have a split in the tapered end of them, used to screw them out with a flat tipped screwdriver. Good idea until you find out the nuts securing them on the bottom side are not secured.

These do not need to be removed in order to remove the top.

I'm a feather weight (150lbs/6'2") and removed mine (popped it loose) myself by standing in the bed at the front, putting my back to the roof, and using my legs to push straight up. The alignment pins will prevent the shell from sliding when the main seals are finally seperated - Just dont try to stand it straight up.

While having it seperated up front, I had a friend pick up the rear and we walked it off.

Ah :doah:
I feel like an idiot. But thanks guys, I managed to get it off with no problems after I got those two bolts from underneath, it was kinda a PITA to get to them but all is good. :D

Yep you official now we have been there once in our times! I left mine out but it is not like I will ever be removing my top......
