tap and die set

what do yall think about these irwin adjustable tap sockets....just as good as the lisle set?

They work great as long as you use them right. For the larger taps you have to manually push the tap all the way in, then tighten it down. It is just how they are designed.

Guys comment that they think they would be too large to get into places, and that the individual tap sockets being sized just right would be better. However no one has ever actually said they had that problem with them. I have used them with great success myself.

Thanks for the info guys......I think I will go with the individual set for the just in case factor. I will be tapping my manifold in my truck soon and i know it will be tight.

That Irwin Hanson set is NICE! Where'd you find it for that price?

I don't know about you guys, but I tap in a few threads, and back out a few, and repeat. Kind of a pain with the ratcheting handle.
That's why I don't have a ratcheting tap handle - I was taught the same method of tapping.

My Irwin/Hanson set came in and its super nice and in a great case. I do have a question. My 1/8-27NPT tap says to use a 21/64 drill bit right there on the tap but everywhere else I read says to use a size "R" drill bit. What do you guys use?
