How does one adjust the throttle cable on a TBI setup? Mine has a lot of slack from when the gas pedal is depressed and when the throttle actually starts to open up, but I didn't see any means of adjustment on the TBI unit itself.
There is no adjustment. If you have that much slack then the bracket is probably bent forward or the cable itself is stretched. I'm assuming this is on the 87 K5 if so be careful about bending the bracket as that will also change your TV cable setting.
I doubt it's designed as an adjustment, but the portion of the pedal that the cable clips into can be bent.
You need to see if you are getting full throttle travel with the pedal or not. If you are, then you do not want to bend or adjust anything, as you can put a lot more force on the pedal than the throttle setup is designed to take, which is why the pedal should bottom out right about the time all movement in the throttle body is gone.
I bent mine a bit due to my TPI swap, but the metal on the pedal didn't feel like it was happy being tweaked. Felt a bit like it was going to snap.
Probably got something else going on though, throttle cable stretch or the bracket up by the engine is bent as mentioned.
I'm definitely not getting full throttle with the pedal as far down as it goes, so I'm guessing it's a stretched throttle cable, as the bracket itself seems to be fine.
Strange that there isn't some sort of adjustment, though
Shouldn't need to be any adjustment, the relationship of the throttle body to the engine, body, and gas pedal should be consistent in every truck.
Uncommon for them to stretch because there isn't much force on them, but as stiff as some people say their pedals are, I have no doubt those do stretch some.
Well, I've had to adjust it on other vehicles before, and there's a lot of slack between depressing the gas pedal and the throttle opening up. Just seems like there should have been some sort of way to tighten or loosen it up designed in.
