I'm collecting parts for a carb to TBI conversion and found what appears to be a late model chevy k3500 with TBI at a pick-n-pull. The problem is that someone swiped the VIN tag and everything else that would tell me what year it was built. The ECM label with the serial number is also faded off so I can't tell from the ECM either.

Are all TBI manifolds the same and compatible with a 350 motor? (I know about the head bolt differences).

AFAIK all 87-95 TBI manifolds are the same assuming we're talking about SBC.

I'm assuming this was only a van deal, but apparently there are some Vortec head TBI manifolds out there. Would be worth checking out, high dollar from GM.

Thanks for the help. I'm pretty sure it's at least an 87-95 truck, and I'm sure it's a sbc so it sounds like it'll work.

Is there any way to tell the serial number of the ECM, like it is printed anywhere else on the inside? It may be easier to buy a known good one instead or messing with it since it looks like it's been rained on for a bit.

I'm sure someone out there can tell what one is like just looking at the PCB, but I'm not one of them. :)

Depending on what you are wanting to do, a later ECM isn't going to be that good of a choice, at least one that had a 4L60E or 4L80E anyways, unless you plan on running one of those.

I think I'll try to find a known good ECM since they don't seem that expensive to find used.

I'm just looking to convert a stock 1970010 sbc 350 to TBI.

How much stuff do you already have? I have almost a complete system if not a complete system.

I think i have everything but the distributor. Let me look everything over this weekend and i'll get back to you. I do have the wire harness but there are a few wires that i believe go through the fuse block and i don't have the other end of those.

That might be ok. Some or the harnesses I've been finding seem to have lots of extra stuff besides engine connections so I was leaning toward an aftermarket harness with only the essentials anyway.

I'm looking at TBI since it still sorta looks like a carb and I'm trying to keep the engine compartment stock-ish looking. Those huge GM harnesses look to be tough to hide. :)
