I have a 87 k5 blazer with a 5.7 TBI.

The blazer was sitting for about 7 years. ran fine before sitting. Today I started the blazer but had to put fuel on the TBI for it to start. Then it would shutt off as soon as the fuel would run out. I disconnected the filter on the chassis when I tried to crank it no fuel came out of the line.

Other then my fuel pump what else could go wrong from sitting for so long? Could it be a fuse or a relay? Were are they?.

Thanks
-Frank

u can check if the fuel pump is working by having a friend turn the key, and put ur head near the gas tank.. you should hear a loud whining. If not, check the fuse on the fuse block thats right above your ebrake pedal on the firewall. There is also a fuel pump relay i believe right in the engine bay towards the top of the fire wall, on the passanger side its black and has wires plugging into it from teh bottom and its about the size of a cell phone.

If you don't hear the pump kick on check the fuel pump relay on the passenger side of the firewall above the heater/AC box. A new one is only about $10 and it's a heck of a lot easier to change than the fuel pump to start with. Also, there should be a wire by the relay with a connector on it. Hook a jumper wire from it to the positive side of the battery. If the fuel pump is good you should hear it kick on.

Just run 12V to the red wire dangling off the fuel pump relay on the passenger side of the engine bay firewall. That will force the pump to run, if it works. Proving your fuel pump relay is or is not at fault.

Of course, even if the relay is at fault, it will still start, as the oil pressure switch will turn the pump on.

is there gas in it

There was definately gas in it, I had my father turn the key as I put my head by the tank and I could hear the pump humming, So I dropped the tank, lines were not clogged filter was in pieces. So I decided to change the pump and filter, didnt get a chance to put it back together hopefully it will run when I do.

Thanks alot for the help everyone. I will tell you all if it works when I finish.

K so I bought a new pump and filter. I have the line thats on the chassis that connects to a fuel filter loose and pointed into a bucket. No fuel is coming through. There is also no hum from the fuel pump. I tested the three pronged connecter that I guess provides power to the pump assembly and It has power.
Could this pump be bad or something else I could be missing?

to make matters more confusing when I disconnected the fuel line to inspect the pump again there was some fuel there, as if it were working momentarily.

any ideas?

have u checked the relay on the firewall?

yes I did,

To make a long story short, the pump is working now its pushing fuel right to the TBI, now the injectors seem to be not pushing out fuel, I put a tester on its green and when I crank it it starts flashing green is that normal? Could it be a fuse? I checked the fuse box under the dash and they all seem to be good.

Either way I wont be able to work on it till monday, so I have time to read up on it while at work.
thanks again for all the help

Is the fuel pump priming when the key is first turned on now?

Dyeager has posted a troubleshooting chart in the injection section. I'd try going through that. I'd check the fuses and all that stuff as well.

I dont hear the fuel pump when I turn the key at first but after tryinig to crank it I hear it. I disconected the fuel line that connects into the TBI fuel was coming out which was not before, I think the pump is good now. I removed the fuel regulator and cover put a towel over it and cranked it for a sec and fuel gushed out. Im thinking the regulator could be bad or the injectors clogged?

I will check the troubleshooting chart now
thanks,

If the test light is flashing on the injectors when you crank and it runs when you put gas in the intake, and fuel is getting to the tbi, then it sounds like it could be clogged injectors or more likely a dry rotted regulator if it's sat for 7 years. Try the charts and see.

You have bad fuel that has varnished up inside the injector pod and clogged the injectors. You MUST remove all the fuel, have the tank boiled out, then either buy new injectors or send them out the be cleaned and tested. I sent a set of injectors to www.witchhunter.com to have cleaned and flow tested. I was very happy with their service and would recommend sending yours to him as well. They are only $18.00 each to clean and flow test and he gives you a before and after flow chart. He charges a flat rate of $10.00 for return shipping so for $46.00 you can have yours cleaned and tested and returned back to you.

So I took the Injectors to a local shop I was recommended to clean them. The Mechanic asked If I had tested the connectors. I told him yes with a regular power tester. He said that doesnt work for those connectors and lent me a noid-lite it imitates the injector and lights up when power comes to it. When I crank it the light does not turn on.

He said it might be a ignition coil, but not the regular coil one that I have to take out the distributor to change. He said it costs around $6. Never heard of this and not 100% clear on the name of the part because he doesnt speak english (I live in miami).

Does this sound right and anyone know what the part is called?
