TBI on 383?

I put a 454 throttle body on it I got at a bone yard and had a chip made by TBI chips. I used the Edelbrock intake and swapped out the fuel pump and put an adjustable fuel pressure regulator on the throttle body. Just a couple things that I did besides headers and a heated O2 sensor.

I have a tb from CFM Tech (Edelbrock intaake bored to match), cop car injectors, a bigger fuel pump, 18psi fuel pressure spring, and a chip from TBIChips.

You can spend $200. to have your stock throttle body bored out or check the bone yards for the 454 one for about $125. to $150.
I did bore my edelbrock intake to 2in. to match the 454 throttle body, easy to do your self, I'll have to post how I did it.

Well, we're in a hurry to get it running again, so I think we will stick with a 350 for now.

What are approx hp/tq numbers 350 vs 383? Going in a 3500 lb rock buggy so it really doesn't need a gob of power.

Thanks

If the 383 is healthy enough the 350 injectors won't give enough fuel and the engine will run lean and possibly grenade an engine over time. The air requirements are going to be greater than a 350 as well and without making the bores larger you can't get anymore air from the 350 TBI.

I think about 330 hp and 420 fp of torque. It made a big difference when I put it in my burb compared to the stock 350.

That would make sense for the heavy burb. More torque to move that pig. :D

We're like 1/2 that much weight.

4x4HIGH, I figured that, but I wanted to see exactly what all we would need to do. I think we've found a good 350 and don't have time to mess with the other little adjustments that would need to be made for the 383.

Let me know if you ever need a job and want to live where it's really hot in the summer, but there's lots of wheeling.

Yea, i found that, but in the auction it says to call him before ordering. I already have the adjustable pressure reg, but the stupid thing doesn't go over 13.5psi.

Do you have a high pressure fuel pump? If not you won't be able to gain anymore pressure than that because of the stall pressure of the stock pump. I bought a 255 L/hr pump from Brian as well. IIRC that pump puts out 80psi. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DYNA...62QQcategoryZ33555QQihZ005QQitemZ150298452434

If you have a HP pump and an adjustable regulator then you just need the 18psi spring to achieve more than 13.5psi. I know because i did the same thing hoping i could get more pressure with the stock spring given i had the HP pump.

What are the specs on your engine?

Oh, now that we have completely hi-jacked DavidB's thread we should leave this to PM's or start a new thread. :D

:D

Hey so would the TBI work stock at least temporarily on the 383? Stock air, stock fuel...shouldn't get lean, just wouldn't be using the full potential of the engine...right?

Who's a good TBI company I can talk to?

Yes and no. A 383 is going to require a chip burn or it's going to run lean no matter what. Yes the engine will start and run but you're potentially going to hurt the engine.
