will a 87 tbi work on an ls5.3 ? i have a 5.3 set up to run a carb and was wondering if the tbi will work

Sure, why not? What are you using for ignition?

But then I'm not sure why anyone would ruin a sweet engine?

i got the engine already set up with msd and gmpp intake to run a carb
does the tbi need any kind of signal from the factory ignition to fire the injectors or run the fuel pump ?
if i had the ls wiring harness i would probebly use it

MSD what? I've never seen this done... thank God...

Yes TBI ECM needs a DRP from ignition to fire injectors.

Like MSD 6A can use the tach signal, but again why would anyone do away with ECM controlled ignition I don't know? But on your engine no distributor, so I have no idea what you have? It had a SWEET Coil On Plug setup from factory.

I'm assuming you already have the coils and Msd harness and 6ls to run all that, but the tbi needs a signal to know when to adjust fuel trims. You could probably rig something up to the 5.3 crank sensor, but you will also need the tbi computer and be able to tune it to read and interpret the crank signal. And do it correctly.

You're trying to go backwards and forwards at the same time. It's going to be more trouble than it's worth. Either slap a carb on it and run the 6ls and harness, or spend the few hundred bucks for the ls computer and wiring harness. PIck up a cheap ls1 intake and tb on ls1tech.com and run it.

Here's the response I got from Dynamic EFI when I basically had the same question...................

> considering doing the LS swap but keeping the TBI. Can your updated computer run without operating the timing portion of the engine

Just need to provide a 4X (crank) signal to the EBL Flash ECM. This is so it can calculate the engine RPM, which is used quite a bit.

To do this could use a flying magnet set up and buffer the pickup signal via a standard 8-pin ignition control module (ICM). Could also cut four slots in the stock hub, mount and use a reluctor pickup. Again buffered by an 8-pin ICM.
