I will be using my 89 2WD burb as a donor for the TBI into a 60 SWB pickup. I have the harness out that connects from the ecm to the engine and it seems like a simple enough setup. But I am having some questions about all the other wiring under the dash. I am also trying to use the cruise control from the 89 and can't tell how it works. Is it controlled through the ecm or something else? Lots of wiring and "little black boxes" under the dash and attached to the steering column which I am not used to seeing on the older trucks.

Also is there anything else needed to make the TBI work other than the ecm harness, o2 sensor, fuel lines, and tank (using the TBI burb tank)?

Cruise is still handled from a separate module, which is located over the gas pedal. Typically a black plastic box, connector on the bottom edge. About 10-12 wires.

The only things you don't HAVE to run are EVAP and AIR, but EGR can be removed with a new chip. No reason to do so if you have the complete engine though. So pretty much everything tied into the ECM is what you need. Don't forget VSS off the speedometer, probably end up doing a generator off the speedometer output on the T-case.

Okay stupid question but what does the VSS look like/where is it exactly? I am using the engine/trans from a 2WD burb, is the VSS part of another harness I need to get? So far all I have pulled out is the harness from the engine to the ECM.

VSS up to 1990 is bolted to the back of the speedometer. 3 wires (red green black IIRC) with an "eye" on the speedometer end, and a green or yellow "buffer" (plastic box) maybe 12" on the other end. Connector at the end of it that will route to cruise and ECM.

This is why I said you may need to run one mounted on the transfercase, as the speedometer is where the VSS gets its signal. Really depends on what you end up doing for speedometer as to which route makes sense.

Okay, well I put the 89 guage cluster into my 86. I don't recal anything like that but will check this weekend. For the 60 C10 the TBI engine is going in I will be using Autometer guages, undecided on style but may try to get an electric speedo if possible.

Make a difference how?

Calibration in the PROM is different for auto vs. manual, but most say it's not that big of a deal. I say it is, but that's my opinion. :)

All "light duty" GM trannies I can think of '90+ have no speedometer cable. This includes the 465...I didn't realize until the other day that the '90-91 2WD variants did in fact use VSS setup on the output shaft of the transmission. :)

As far as the VSS and ECM needs I guess.

My 89 2WD burb has a speedo cable. The guage cluster was a direct swap into my 86 burb. Does this mean that I don't have a VSS or is it maybe another type (ealier vs later design)

All the same up until 1990. (well, different color buffers for instance)

You are putting this into a '60, correct? Only reason I got into that aspect is due to the speedometer itself, since it's not going to be a "bolt in".

Thats right it is going into a 60 2WD shortwide. What will I need to do about the VSS in order to make it work?
