My 83 has a TBI transplanted in, and the throttle cable setup has never been right (see below). My cable bracket seems to be way too low to have the proper angle, and the cable itself is way too long and requires a loop which puts the whole thing under tension. I cobbled up a a bracket extended to get the height right, but I'd like it to really be right. What does a proper TBI setup look like? Is there a different cable and bracket I can swap on to make my setup right?

I'll try to grab a pic of my stock TBI setup tomorrow.

Like yours, mine is transplanted (Howell kit, came with ECU and wiring harness and sensors, but no brackets.) I used a factory bracket from the junkyard, which apparently I didn't snap a pic of before mounting. Mounted it looks like

in various stages of the cables being connected/snapped in or not. Note the bracket holding the coil is separate, just happens to be painted the same color and is bolted to the same spot on the intake.

What year is that bracket from? It looks very different from this one, which claims to be for 1990-91:

The angle of the cable looks a bit steep too, but I've seen that a lot as I've been surfing on this. I'm curious if the factory setup was like that. I've been trying to get a nice straight pull from idle, since that's where the feel matters most.

That Ebay one says "S10" and "Sonoma" in it, and talks about 2.8 and 4.3, so I betcha that's for a V6 S-Blazer.

I hate Pick-N-Pulls, but grabbing the brackets off the top of a TBI motor is pretty easy.

Good catch. Yeah, wouldn't be hard to pull. If I can get it online, it's worth a premium not to waste 2-3 hours driving across town on a Saturday. Do you think they are all the same from 87-91?

Thanks, now I definitely know what I'm looking for. Did you happen to notice the cable run to the firewall? I'm wondering if the factory routing also has a big loop like I have. Based on Rock Auto listings, the TBI years have even longer cables than the carbs.

My '88. Better late than never i guess. lol.

I'll go take a look.

Yes. My finger is on the throttle cable. It loops like a girl's handwriting. lol.

Well, I went searching for brackets and ended up having to order one from a yard in Oklahoma. Around here the oldest stuff is about 1995. I only found a few TBI rigs and the engines were gone in all of them. Anyway, got the bracket and ordered a GM TBI throttle cable (15552822). Even with the new bracket, the pedal had a bit of "take up" before it engaged the cable and I couldn't get to wide open before it was floored. I ended up bending the pedal just a bit and it seems good now. It feels more spunky driving too, so I wonder if I had the wide-open problem with my old setup too.

Hello mastiff, did you ever come up with a throttle bracket. I’m trying to adapt tbi to a 76 truck with a th350 transmission. I was also wondering do you have dual tanks ?
I have a wiring question. Thanks for any assistance

I think I have a factory TBI bracket ordered online from a junk yard. It's been a while. I can snap a pic of what I have going on if it will help.

Do you have duel tanks ?
I have s fuel pump wiring question.
If you wouldn’t mind snapping a pic that would be great. What manifold are you using. Thanks

Here's a pic if it helps. I know it's hard to make everything out. I only have a single tank.

I doubt that he will be able to see that picture without premium membership, and I don't know how to host it in a way that he would be able to view it.

@Brianlvs , the throttle cable bracket for TBI trucks usually places the cable housing end just forward of the coil mounting bolts. I can't think of good way to describe it accurately. It needs to have enough distance to get full pull of the throttle lever. The housing end needs to be lower than the pin on the throttle lever, but above the throttle shaft. It will pull hard off of idle if it's too low.

Using dual tanks is possible, and there are probably a couple of ways to do it. Separate in tank pumps is how the factory did it, as a single pump may have problems pulling fuel at times.

If you post your questions in a thread, others should be able to help out.
And welcome to CK5!

Thanks for the welcome. I can’t view the picture it’s smaller than a thumbnail. I have a 92 k1500 with tbi and understand how the bracket gets attached to the intake. I’m getting a truck with a well unknown intake right now with a Holley adapter to 2 barrel tbi pro jection. It’s running real rich at idle and I’m not a fan of the pro jection and want to go gm tbi. Just not sure the best way to tackle the throttle bracket.
It’s got a turbo 350 so I’m not sure if that will make the bracket hard to rework. The truck is a 76 k20 with a 350 engine.
I haven’t posted on other threads yet.
The truck has duel inline pumps one for each tank mounted on the fuel rail. I know 87 had in tank pumps so that could be a option if I get fuel starvation. I’m just not sure how the projection controls pump prime so I can do the same with a 1227747 ecm.
