hay guys i got a 90 k5 and want to switch it over to carb but not sure about the electrical.

heres what i was thinking
go the the wrecking yard and get the entire engine electrical harness right to the fuse block from an older carbed truck

hook the fuel pump to 12v keyed and use a fuel pressure regulator and just plug off the return line

so will this work?
if not what how should i go about it

I switched from a carb to tbi and like it a lot. What's wrong with your tbi? You'd probably also need a new distributor.

Id get a regulator with a return and hook the return to it instead of capping it

well i have a 450 hp sbc sitting in the shop , and the truck will never see the road so not worrried about milage or emissions

ohh and the regulator with a return, good idea

I meant more of why give up the reliability of fuel injection? If you just need more juice, a BBC tbi might be good option.

since I switched from fuel injection to carb, my truck went from having some stupid problem once a month, to maybe one in 8 or 9 months. And I daily drove the bastige from 2001 til november.

Anyway, I did the bypass regulator. Much better idea than capping the return b/c the stock fuel pump will run & run and without fresh fuel running through it, it could overheat and burn up. Also will help keep you from having vapor lock issues.

u will need a new distributer and prolly a plate or either a new intake to match the carb...i did this to my 90 k5...actually have the tbi block carb'd n my 86 rite now...fuel reg for sure...i took my pump oyt tha take n installe an inline elc pump next to the filter n tha frame rail...

im not sure exactly what you will need but I bought a 1991 caprice police 350... nothing great.. low hp motor.. but roller cam... it was tbi but i didnt want that.. many tried getting me to keep it but no...

so
1991 350
1996 vortec heads
power plus+ vortec intake
holley truck avenger 670cfm
1978 distributor
that is all that was needed to fire it up.....

anyway... just to throw it out there.. you can get wiring from another truck but I have learned the hard way that harnesses locally in junkyards are getting harder to find or already destroyed..... cmon 1980 harness is 30 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i bought a painless wiring 21 kit... awesome kit.... just dont buy the all black like i did... plus i dont have lots of time so my truck has been apart for 14 months... but soon to be done...

I got the cab to finish wiring then fire it up!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just too cold to go out there right now.....

well i have 2 1990 blazers one has a warmed over tbi motor witch is my daily driver the other one is pretty much going to be a mud truck and as far as the carbed motor goes the only thing i need to do is figure out how to wire it as the motor is complete, some gas and a battery i could run it on the floor of my garage

There really is only one wire you need to worry about after you installed the starter and alternator which I would leave on the stock truck harness. Just find one wire that is hot on and off according to the key, and make sure its hot when the starter is turning over and connect that wire to the hot terminal on the hei distributor.

I have an 88 blazer and believe me i've thought about the switch as weel but thats only when I'm having some little computer problem like the MAP sensor or crap like that. But then I think about how well it runs. I live in PA and its cold as heck everyday and i never think about having to warm up un-like the carb option. But preference is just that. If it were me I would stick to TBI, edelbrock sells a 670cfm tbi that is bad to the bone. You will spend just as much converting than replacing to a more reliable high performance TBI
