I have a problem this week with my tempurature guage only recording 120 degrees, so I replaced the sensor and thermostat(195), and it still reads the same level. Now I thinking it is the guage itself. I am wondering if I get a aftermarket guage, can I hook it up to the new sensor or have to use the one that comes with the guage?

have to use the sender that comes with the aftermarket gauge. I have a few spare factory temp gauges, they work fine. I would sell one.....PM me if interested it...

Well, I have a 1994 gmc seirra that I am having the problem with. I bet yours probably wont work. thanks anyways.

Check your radiator cap and make sure it is sealing properly and also make sure your thermostat is working properly which you can check with hot water in a pan and thermometer. Usually its simple things like this that can cause the problem you are having.

Well, I installed a aftermarket temp guage, and now it reads 165-170 degrees. I have a 195 thermostat in it, so I don't know why its not reading high enough. The old guage was only recording 130-140 degrees. Any ideas?

Where is the sender located? You did use the sender that came with the aftermarket gauge correct?

The sender is the one on the block. No, I used the oem style one that I just replaced. The guy at the shop said I could. Should I put in the one that the guage came with?

The guy at the shop told you wrong. Aftermarket gauges require the use of the sender that came with the gauge. :deal:

Just remember CK5 told you first WITH the right info. Aftermarket sender dammit. Then commence being happy.

Thanks a lot guys, I'll change out the sensor and let you guys know what happens. So much for listening to the counter guys.

Parts guys today are almost as bad as the employees at fast food joints, if the computer doesn't say they have it then they must not and they won't even try beyond their computer most times.

You need to find a parts store that still has an old time working there, he will be able to ramble off part numbers from memory and is correct 99% of the time.

Autozone is the debil... support your local mom and pop parts stores...
