TH350 Gaskets around filler tube, Kick down cable...

Is there supposed to be a Gaskets around filler tube and Kick down cable on a TH350 where they enter the transmission. I cant tell which the oil is coming from, but it just runs out of one of them when parked at an angle? Anybody else had this issue.

mines leaking from the kickdown. Think my fix is going to be drain the fluid, then rtv the **** out of it

My Th-400 has a rubber bushing type deal that go's in the trans then you push the filler tube in.
 
Or replace the o-rings, you wont have to drop the pan for that.

pretty sure you still have to drop the pan to disconnect the cable to put new orings on. Unless you have someway of getting an oring through the cable?? magic maybe:dunno:
 
No, the cable connects at the opening so you should not have to drop the pan.
I did a little research and I am missing both boots... LOL maybe that is the reason for the red river. LOL Thanks Guys! appreciated.
 
ive changed both of em.

you dont need to drop pan.

O ring seal for dipstick is less desireable than the top hat seal.

The detent(kickdown) cable detaches with one bolt, then the cable comes out of the tranny with a bend in it, you just have to turn the cable and it comes off of it.

Easy to do on both, jack your truck up on pass side fairly high and you dont even have to drain any fluid, pull that dipstick without draining and you get a massive puddle
 
Just had this issue after I installed a new dipstick on my th350 with new o-ring. So I bought a lokar flexible dipstick(pricey) with the boot and lock nut that goes inside the tranny. Stopped the leak completely.

When I pulled the old dipstick and the o-ring was there but it had a flat spot on one side. I guess I boogered it up when pounded it in the first time.

No smoke or mirrors bro. Remove cable from the carb, remove hold down bolt on kickdown cable at the trans, slide the housing up and out, unhook the eyelet from the hook-voila

Metal Twister: you could always pop for a aftermarket dipstick and tube that uses a boot, they seal alot better. As a bonus you get a locking dipstick. Fitzall makes the ones i have installed in the past. And IIRC the kickdown cable housing that uses the boot is larger in diameter than the models that use the o-ring. You would be best off pulling the cable out of the trans case far enough to determine which your truck uses as any PO could have junkyard swapped a trans in the past
 
Good call... There is a tranny shop mid way up the block. Went in there and they turned me on to the boot for the tranny and the boot for the kick down cable. SOOOOO guess what Im doing this weekend. :thumb:
