I've been lurking around for awhile, and have run into a problem. I'm needing to put a th350 trans in a project rig and am having problems getting the correct output shaft to match my t-case. It's an older non-lock up trans. going to a np203 case. Does anyone have any measurements on how long the out put shaft is supposed to be, or how long the trans is supposed to from the top of the bellhousing to the end of the tailshaft. I currently have a trans. non-lock up that was mated to an np208 but the output shaft looks too long to fit. Any advice or resource would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm at work right now, but if no-one chimes in I'll measure mine when I get home about midnight.

Output shaft needs to stick out of the back of the case by 7/8" for an NP203 if you're using the TH350/203 adapter. You can also use the TH350/208 transmission but you'll be using the TH350/208 adapter and then have to drill the adapter pattern onto the face of the NP203 and plug any unused holes.

Thanks that what i was looking for. I need to have the trans rebuilt anyway, could the output shaft be replaced when it's rebuilt to a 203 case output? Also are there any decent/reliable suppliers out there where i could get one that you know of?

just find a core TH350 that was mated to a np203 from the factory, I would think that would be your cheapest option on getting the tailshaft.

Yeah that is the most common th350 there ever was, the one you have is a one year only th350.
I would swap you your shaft for the correct one if you want.
Pay shipping both ways and it's yours.

Pretty sure the TH350/208 was from 81-85 so that's a 5 year run on this combo.

I thought the TH350 was discontinued in the 1/2 ton trucks when the 700R4 replaced it in 82? I have only ever seen one truck with a TH350 and a 208, It was an 81.

I know for the 85 model year the OD (700R4) was an option, so the 350 was probably the standard auto that year for 1/2-3/4 LD trucks.

That was my understanding but I guess I could be wrong
I thought it was th400 for the 3/4 and 1 tons and 700r4 for the 1/2 tons. starting 82.

I bought an 85 LD 3/4t (7200gvw) new, and it had the 700r4 as an optional trans. (maybe it was a mandatory option? but they did list the 3 spd auto also) It had the 8 lug 14BSF rear also.
And the stupidest thing I ever heard...that year you had to go to HD (C6P, 8600gvw) equipment to get a 350 engine...WTF?
