I'm eyeballin one of these along with a TransGo 400-1-2 kit on Summit.

Specifically, this pan- http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TCI-228000/

And this kit- http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRG-400-1-2/

The pan offers +2qt capacity, drain plug etc. But no temp sending unit bung. How do you add one to these aftermarket aluminum pans? Is it as simple as drilling a hole and TIG'ing on the bung?

As for the kit. Does anyone run one of these? What can you say about it's manners? Reading this thread on Pirate- http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=890898&highlight=th400+transgo has taught me a lot, but not much in the way of street manners. I don't want neck snappingly firm shifts, but I don't want it to feel like a cadilac either.

Those pans are the sheeit. Any deeper pan is great as long as it includes the filter extension, and i see that that one does. Personally id drill and tap the hole for a sending unit, the pans are thick enough and there is no pressure occuring in the pan. As for the shift kit, i havent personally installed one into a 400 , but on 700's and 4L60-e's, and various other manufactures trans' . Transgo is top notch, and the kit will likely provide options for fine tuning or tailoring the shift to your liking.

drill & tap hole 1/8 pipe thread most sendors.

and transgo = top notch. not to hard on tranny but firms up all the weak points good.

I dunno why it didn't occur to me to drill and tap. Duh.

I guess I need to go find a gauge and sending unit now. I love Summit.

Transgo makes great products. As far as the pan, if you are playing on the rocks either protect it or go with a steel pan. I smacked the front of mine on a rock and dented it pretty good and if it was a aluminum pan I would have probably shattered it.

Ok, another $350 goes screaming out of the bank account. Picked up the 400-1-2 kit, the TCI deep pan, a filter kit and this gauge-

I like the digital gauges over the standard ones, easier to read at a glance.

I wish I could see the stack of parts waiting for me....it must be ginormous. :eek1:

No rocks for this truck. It's goin on my street queen V3500 dually.

Hmm....Unless you think I could find a curb that would reach the tranny pan with a rig on 39's? Maybe a loading dock/ramp? :haha:

I have a nice deep aluminum pan (B&M one) for my trucks TH400,but I have not installed it because I heard its supposed to have a filter extention peice..so far I have not seen anyplace listing one separately..had it riding around in the trucks toolbox for years now, would like to use it ..anyone know where to get the right extention separately?..

I was just on B&M's website and the filter extension IS sold seperately by them and it is part number 20271. http://www.bmracing.com/PRODUCTS/Transmission-Pans_2/Filter-Extension_2

Thanks for that info--I'll have to get one so I can put that deeper pan on it before winter sets in..been meaning to change the fluid in it for 6 years now..it only plows my driveway and makes short trips so I'm sure it could use a fluid & filter change..trans was supposedly rebuilt just before I got the truck..
Now,if I can olny get the rear u-bolts & spring plates on it,replace ALL the brake lines, master cylinder, oil cooler hoses, wheel cylinders and rubber brake hoses, maybe I can actually USE this truck again without fear of roadside failures..:doah:
