Is there a preference between the figure 8 and 6 bolt round?

More options with one vs the other? Doubler setup easier with a certain one?

Just wanting to know so I buy the better or more preferable of the two.

Figure 8 is a lot more common, correct?

ord told me fig 8 stronger in doubler setup for 2 extra bolts and bigger surface area . . . not to say 6 bolt round weak . .

6 bolt round case is worth more to guys doing nv4500/205 swaps .

but round 6 makes it easy if doing a strong box / magnum box / type unit . as its already round pattern .

but ord has adaptor plate kit for magnum box setup to bolt to fig 8 case .

in the end best price wins or what ever is avalible at the time needed.

just make sure not to get a syncro 205 . . . can be converted to reg with reg parts . just more time / money .

click here and scroll down and ready each section on magnum box / 203 / 205 and related kits for each . every thing is in there for TONS of info . http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog.htm

Fig 8 or 6 bolt round doesn't matter, neither is a failure point. Just different.

Some 80's 205's have synchro front output shafts, this was so they would work with auto hubs. They use a 30 spline front output, so it's not that they're weak it's just that aftermarket yoke availability is really limited and you can't swap to a 32 spline front output without basically having another non-synchro 205 for donor parts.

You can tell if it's a synchro case or not from the outside without taking anything apart, there is an explanation at the bottom of this page:
