What needs to be done to swap a 205 in place of a 208 on a TH400 if I have the 205 and adaptor from a TH400?

You need to have the correct lenth output on the 400 for the input in your 205.The 400's used 3-4 different output's,and maybe a crossmember depending on what adapter your using.

yeah i went through this already, i had my th400 rebuilt that had a np208 behind it and went to put the np205 up to it and saw that the output shaft was to long.

i have the output shaft needed to run the np205 i swiped it out of the trans i got my np205 off of (i didnt rebuild that one cause the case was cracked)

ill measure it tomorrow when im the garage and ill let you know the length if you want? if i space for some reason and dont post it, send me a email and ill get it.

If it being to long was the only problem couldn't I cut the output shaft and file the end?

sorry about that its the other way around , its to short. i seen in my other post i said it was to long, doh:doah:

the np205 adapter is like a inch or so thicker then the np208 adapter. so the splines dont even reach the transfercase. i didnt even notice that till it was in the truck.

if it was to long im sure i would have hacked the thing off too

You can also change the input of the 205 to a long input if it is not already. check this site, there is alot of info and they helped me over the phone even tho I was never a customer(yet).
