Thanks all. I believe my 52/56 swap is now mostly done, courtesy of a great many fine folks who replied to my various issues, including but not limited to:

Solutions were, as pointed out, adjusting the steering box
, and in the case of the amazing leaping truck, alignment. Some redheaded jackass (i.e. me) had eyed the toe-in when he replaced the tie rod and not gotten around to adjusting it with a measuring tape. She was WAAAY toed in, enough so that the front tires were chirping on the straights, which makes for an interesting ride! 
I've got her dialled in enough that I can at least drive her to the tire place, so I'll get her aligned. Toe-in ain't a big deal, but then I can also have them measure the caster and see if I need angle shims.
