<subliminal message> twenty-five bucks a year buys you peace of mind and more mechanical skill than you can know </subliminal message>

Thanks all. I believe my 52/56 swap is now mostly done, courtesy of a great many fine folks who replied to my various issues, including but not limited to:

Solutions were, as pointed out, adjusting the steering box :doah:, and in the case of the amazing leaping truck, alignment. Some redheaded jackass (i.e. me) had eyed the toe-in when he replaced the tie rod and not gotten around to adjusting it with a measuring tape. She was WAAAY toed in, enough so that the front tires were chirping on the straights, which makes for an interesting ride! :eek1:

I've got her dialled in enough that I can at least drive her to the tire place, so I'll get her aligned. Toe-in ain't a big deal, but then I can also have them measure the caster and see if I need angle shims.

Anyway, I appreciate the help from all y'all.
