Ive finally got the beast done. Totally rebuilt. 500 hp with 600 pounds of torque. I will be mounting it to my 78 blazer in 2 weeks. Let me know what you think?

Ah, new engines abound!

Your 454, my 383. Bliss! It looks real sharp man! I know you wanted it in your rig yesterday. Keep us posted on the progress!

Glad to see someone else likes Edelbrock Tall Valve Covers Polished! :D

Seasons Greetings and Merry Christmas!

Good looking motor, now where are the pics of it in the blazer?

Motor Looks great. I've got my motor just about done, and should right around where yours is as far as HP and torque is concerned. What carb you running? Once you get it up and going, let me know how you like it.

I think..........you need to publish the specs on what parts you used. Those are some VERY respectable HP/TQ numbers.

Heads?
Valve Sizes?
Cam Specs?...Roller Cammed?
Overbored / Stroker?

I'm planning a 454 build now, and was going to simply use larger valves in the "781" heads that it came with. I've seen some 454s with aluminum heads put up some pretty large numbers....put for a higher price tag too. The roller cam retrofit kit isn't too expensive, so I was thinking that might be another good place to spend some $$$.

Looks awesome, a little video clip on YouTube would be nice when the time comes!!! :thumb:

Greg, when I talked to my motor guy about building my 454, he told me if I wanted a big gain in HP and TQ(even over bigger valves in the 781's), get a pair of th cast aluminum AFR heads...but they are pricey.

Yep.....heads make the power.

But my 454 already has the 781s, which are supposedly a pretty darned good "factory" head....and with the larger valves seem to be a great bang-for-the-buck option.

The problem with starting with a solid running 454 is how many parts do you replace to get more power? New Heads, Stroker crank, Roller cam conversion....it all adds up. Then before you know it the "budget" rebuild is starting to look more like an all-out-assault on your checkbook!!!! :D

nothing like a bad ass big block to make ya feel all manly and puff your chest out :D   , very nice motor. cant wait to build one for mine.

When I was playing with some numbers on desktop dyno if you use a stroker crank, it would be pretty easy to achieve those kind of numbers. 496....mmmmmmmm.....496.....say it again......oooooooohhhh....aaaahhhhh........496......

Thank you all for all the compliments. I have all the specs at work. I know most of them, but want to give you everything at once. I had the motor professionally designed by a race shop. I told the guy that I was looking for a lot of bottom end. I told him that I would like to still drive at least 55 on thr road, but when i hit that beast in the mud, I wanted women and children to run inside. It has instant throttle response. I bought it off of ebay from an 80 year old lady who lived in Georgia. Her name was Gloria. She took it out of an old Corvette, and kept it in her mobile home for 2 years. I bought it for 500 dollars. I will post all specs for you tomorrow.
