is your front spring rear shackle in the stock location (top) or did you move it?

perp said:one more question (minor hijack). how much does it move the axle forward when using 56 up front . and is that with the long side forward or at the back like stock. i was going to use 52" for 2" forward, but now i am thinking about what you did. i planned on starting cutting this weekend so good timing on your post. Thanks

what size meats are you going to run?

I put my 56s in front about 5 months ahead of DP. The spring center measures 26" from the front on 56" springs. You can move the front spring hanger 7.5" forward before you run out of frame. That leaves you with roughly 4.5" forward movement of the spring center as compared to the original axle centerline. If you were to flip the leaf spring around you'd end up with your axle in about the same spot. The benefit is that your pinion universal won't cry as much. I, myself, preferred moving the axle forward.Jimmy6.2 said:Would it be possible to mount the spring the other way, longer side in front.
Has anybody else mounted 56" in front?
I'm not sure. You now know the length of the springs and how much stuff moves off my measurements. If you flip 56" springs around and don't move the front hanger all the way forward you'll end up with the axle closer to the cab. I was looking to move the axle as far forward as possible, mostly for fender clearance and keeping the draglink straight. Basically, I moved the bracket forward first. I then compared moving the rear hanger with 52" springs or leaving the hanger alone with 56" springs. I decided to leave the rear hanger and run the 56" springs. I'd probably run 56" or 64" springs in the rear. I run 64s... so I have 10 feet of leaf spring in a 15 foot truck.Jimmy6.2 said:Thanks for your quick answer CyberSniper,
I have some more questions.
You moved the front hanger forvard as much as possible, ok? what if i would do as in the article in CK5, just move the support bracket to the front of the front hanger and use the rear hanger as STD and flipp the spring, do ya think that will work? and if its ok, where would my axel end up compared to STD.
The thing is: I have my std 52" rear springs and a extra set of 56", should I have 52" in front and 56" in the rear or 56" in front and 52" in the rear ?
As I remember it the 52" is 4 leafs and a support leaf and the 56" have an extra leaf. Any ideas?
If you've got a lot of drill bits and a lot of patience, yes.Jimmy6.2 said:I understand that this issue has been discussed before but i have one more question, is it possible to drill a new hole in the the middle of the 56" to make the axle fit in the middle of the spring?
