How do you guys insure your rides in the event you need to file a claim? The value of a 35+ year old vehicle is not worth much. But in the case of a somewhat clean and classic ride what to do?

1) full coverage ( with classic appraised value)
2) standard full coverage
3) liability

I have insurance on it now but not sure how I am going to use the K5 in the future. ie. drive it like it is, lift it a little to run fire roads and camping or make it a little more capable and run 1 ton axles with 35-37" tires.

I know we have are own opinions of how or what we should do to rigs. Please stay with the question for now.

A little history. I built a 92 wrangler with all chevy 1 ton drive train that was pretty bad a$$ but had to get rid of it because my wife and I had twin girls last year and after looking at the idea of two car seats and gear the K5 was much better suited for what we needed.

Thanks,
Brian

depends on how much you want to spend. regualar plates are blah but cheap. custom plates i belive are 50 bucks a plate.

post a pic of the 74, if you can afford full coverage than do it, i have liability on my k5 and its been sitting for a year, i got to thinking the other day, "if the barn burns down or if the cows decide to eat it than its not covered, why am i paying for insurance that only covers it if its moving?:doah:"

im putting full coverage in it as soon as its running its worth it expecially if its clean and worth something.

look into getting it apprasied also ( i belive that is the right term) most insurance companys wont give you squat for it, but if you can prove it has a lot of money into it (with receipts) than if its ever totaled that you get more for it.

hope that helps

yeah but you will find most insurance companys wont cover it off road like if you roll it but what ever its personal pref i think i no that il be lucky to get what i have in any of my vehicals

For all of you and Colorado guys. How do you think I should register the 74?I just got it and its really clean. Regular plates, collector or classic. Any pro's and con's to any? And what about insurance? Is it worth it to put full coverage insurance on it or just liability?

Thanks and any input is greatly appreciated.

I don't know how the classic plates work but the collector plates are awesome, you only have to register every 5 years instead of every year!

Get the collector plates, pass one emissions test and never have to do it again. I've got 'em on my '74 and if yours looks anything like mine the full coverage insurance would be a waste. My insurance agent actually wanted to drop my policy because I told him the truck got used offroad :doah:

Oh yeah and we want PICS :D

If you buy collectors plates you have to pay 5 years registration...if you sell it before then, you'd be out that money....

You can get a refund for the remaining years if you take the plates and registration in tot he Clerk and recorder.

Pics of the 74 vert!

It has fresh paint new fenders and some body work was done on the rear wheel wells. Most everything else is stock. Very little rust.

That would be the one but I paid much less for it. Do you know it or anything about it.

i was looking at it and was gonna buy it, but im stuck in lousiana and couldnt get anyone to go look at it for me :(

you luck bastard

:wink1: good buy glad to see it went to a ck5'r

Yea, nice score! Looks real clean....I was gunna' go look at it and see what their bottom dollar was...never got around to it.... Lucky dog!

I only have liability on my 70 K20. The full coverage quote to insure all the added goodies wasn't worth it. A lot of insurance companies will bend you over once they find out your truck is lifted. If I wreck it on road or total it off-road then i'll build another one. I only have the liability policy so I can drive it around occasionally or to a trail head

I need to insure mine, put the engine back in and get a ypipe made/inspection

I want to drive my bastard :(
