I have spent three days ( about 4 hours a day ), removing my rear front spring hangers and it has worn me out. Cutting, drilling and grinding and hammering rivets out, eight per side. Removing rusting spring bolts, having to cut the bolt heads off cause they wouldnt turn to remove. having the cut the old bushing and outer sleeves out. Doing this on a gravel driveway, crawling under and out from under the truck about a hundred times. I finally finished today, and now I can move on to the next thing on my list, replacing door hinge pins.

I am getting too old for this :doah:

Go get the cheapest carpet you can buy from Home Depot or where ever. I use that when I'm working on my truck, on the dirt/grass. It helps so you can crawl under a bit easier. My carpet was left over from my house, so it's thick and REALLY NICE muwahaha

Enjoy the missing rivets

One junkyard near me gets rolls of brand new carpeting they used only a few times at hotel conventions in Boston often, and a lot of guys buy it up to use in their homes and garages--the junkyard uses it for ground pads ,you can take a hunk and use it to lie on while stripping parts, and they use the old dirty peices to soak up oil & fuel spills while cutting engines & tranny out--then they put it in the burn barrels!..

I've used a sheet of that rigid foam stuff like blueboard that has a foil coating as an outdoor "creeper" ,its a lot more comfy to lie on than bare ground, and doesn't catch on fire that easy like a blanket would if you need to weld or use a torch...Homosote board works well too...

We once took a matress out of an old camper someone junked at the yard I worked at,to lie on --the boss flipped out when he saw my co-worker lying under a car on it--when he saw he didn't move for several minutes,he went over to make sure he hadn't been crushed under the car--but he was ASLLEP!..he dragged him out by the feet and I though sure he was going to fire him!...the matress went into the dumpster ,the boss poured drain oil all over it to endure it wouldn't be slept on again!..

Sounds like me a few weekends ago.

Rivits, and leaf spring bushings can suck it

i had to replace my pring hangers as well. It was a bitch of a job took forever, not to mention I had to drop the gas tank too.

I should have dropped my gastank, but decided to just use the cutoff wheel on the leftside rivets and drill out the rivets on the rightside next to the tank. I took some nonflammable blankets and shoved them up and around the tank just incase.
