The Great Smaug

Known things to button up before test drive (for my benefit):

Tighten the 13mm block bolt holding the starter brace.
Finagle the new oil sender into place (it's oversized so it doesn't...quite...fit).
Round up 2 more transfer case bolts. 3/8"x1.25", the 1.5" bolts I'm using won't quite fit into the special pocket cast into the NV3500. The NP261 used studs instead of bolts, so it didn't have this problem.
Driveshaft.
Change out front brakes with 3/4-ton calipers and longer hoses.
Exhaust.
Fluids. I'm running cheapie tranny fluid for a few miles to flush out the sand particles from my rebuild. NP208 is still dry.

After that I can start on wiring/gauges/seats/interior/AwesomeStuff.

Where is this video???

I shot a video via my phone's SMS program, which saved it as a .3gp file, which this forum will not accept (I already tried uploading it). It was pretty crummy quality anyways. If Greg or James are able to post it, they have my permission.

But basically, the truck started, and it sounds quite different with open headers. There's no turbo whine yet because most of the exhaust is bypassing it. It does spin slowly and the line is full of oil. So I think it's ready to start connecting the pipes.

Speaking of which, I've been driving Big Blue the last few weeks. It's gutless, but with no weight in the back it's much better than the blazer at spinning the tires. ;)

At this point it spins forever and achieves no distance. It's technically an infinite duration, but probably not what you were expecting.
It passes. Glad it's running.

Where there's smoke there's fire.

Unfortunately, there's also a radiator leak at one of the old impact sites. :doah:

And I'm a bit concerned with the bubbles in the radiator. It's not a full-on milkshake, but it looks enough like oil to have me nervous. :1zhelp:

:(

Nope. Hardly touched it this month. I've been enjoying other hobbies. I think I test fired it once.

But to recap...I bought a replacement Spectra radiator and then didn't install it.

I bought a set of seats from @78K30.

And I finally pulled my brand new headliner out of my parent's barn. It needs some cleaning after 3 years of sitting, but I think it will be fine.

I've collected bearings, brakes, seals, u-joints, ball joints, and tie rod ends for a front axle rebuild. I'm going to leave the open gears in there.

Todo list:

Modify throttle cable so I can plumb the intake
Radiator swap
Bleed clutch
Driveshafts
Fluids
Exhaust

That should get it road worthy. Later on I have:

Install hood
Install rear Detroit
Front receiver
Various interior mods - seats, wiring, gauges, etc.
