So what happens after the year 3999....?

IDK. I assume the license plate office will be swamped as all the collectors, hobbiests, antique owners, and military guys simultaneously file for renewal of their non-expiring plates. :dunno:

Although my paper registration certificate lists that the plate has no expiration date, so I'm probably fine.
 
Probably like our trailer plates, which are "permanent", i.e. they expire every five years. :surepal:

Also, it's $15 for those five years, but if you register it as non-operational it's $25 for one year. :dunno:

And Marty, when did you become so knowledgable about slushboxes? I thought it was your lifelong desire to equip all vehicles with a third pedal?

Haha I made that on accident and thought that something that amazing needed to be posted!

Ok, I'll oblige. Here is my amazing thing that I am posting:

My rearmost U-joint does not fit. It's amazing. Brand new AC Delco 1350-size U-joint on the driveshaft, stock yoke on the 1978 K20 10.5" 14BFF. The width is perfect, the diameter of the caps is slightly smaller than the slots in the yoke. So it rattles. If I wrapped a piece of paper around the caps a couple times it would be perfect size. This is definitely not a 1410 yoke. I have one of those and cross-checked it.

Am I missing something? Is there some middle size that I'm not aware of? FWIW, The 14BFF in the Suburban was a standard bolt-up affair, the stock 1350 joint fit into the 1350 yoke.

My other update:

Mounting a U-joint without a press is slow and tedious work. I think a press is in my future, it would have paid for itself several times over by now.
NP208 slip yoke seal replaced and driveshaft installed.
New GP relay is in and clicking properly.


I took out the passenger seat during the cleaning the other day. For the first time in the 4 years I've owned it, I left it outside overnight. Guess when our first snowfall came? :rolleyes: It's crazy odds, when you think about it. :crazy:
 
Do you have a caliper to check the actual cap OD measurement?
 
Also for what it's worth I never use a press on U joints. A 5" bench vice on my service truck or a ball joint press is all I've ever used/needed

That's what I used, but I wound up with 2 issues. First, on one end, the yoke was juuuuuuust a tiny bit narrow, so putting the second clip on the inside was a bit of a squeeze, and that one is stiffer than I would like. So I'm not completely thrilled with that. I put it on the axle end just in case it does fail sooner than the other one.

But secondly, during my large barn clean up a few weeks ago, my bag of U-joint clips disappeared. Before I attached the slip yoke. :doah: O'reilly's gave me a baggie of clips that they found on some random back shelf, but they turned out to be slightly thicker than the OEM ones. I ground them down to OEM thickness and things are peachy now on the slip yoke end of things.

I'm not sure that having a press would have really made things easier, but it did seem like it.
 
FYI, one of my local friends found out that I'm pretty close to getting this thing road worthy. So he told me that he expects to see it in the church parking lot on Sunday.

We'll see if that actually happens. We're close, but it still feels like we aren't quite that close. :thinking:

I don't feel like dropping $25 on one lousy pig tail. IMO this looks like a $5 part. Last time I rolled by the body shop the NV4500 donor K3500 dually carcass was still sitting in the weeds. I just might stop by and see how much wiring is left on it. If that section is still present I doubt he'd charge me anything for it. Or, I could just keep the backup circuit the way it is with the column shifter. FWIW, the lights don't presently work, so maybe I just put this off until warmer weather returns.

And nobody has a scathing indictment of cheap lube oil? I expected flaming nuns to appear when using Valvoline brand lube, it's $9 instead of $16! :1zhelp:

Waytek wire has weatherpack plugs cheap. Hec PM me your address and I'll send you a couple terminals and the plug. We've got a Lawson cabinet full of them at work

That's what I was looking for. But I'm confused as to why my other 2-prong weatherpack connector doesn't fit into this sensor?

Maybe I'll go give it another look tomorrow. It looks like it should work, and yet it does not. :dunno:
