Get 'er cleaned up and solid.
The transfer case is out!

I really made this harder than it needed to be. For some reason when positioning the transmission jack... I thought that the weight of the transfer case was going to fall toward the driver's side. I have no idea why I thought that. It was a dumb mistake.

Anyhow when I got into it I quickly realized that the bulk of the weight was passenger side... and a large portion of the transfer case was hanging off of the transmission jack entirely. It was causing the transmission jack to tip over. So I had to use ratchet straps and brute force to try and level things out.

In the end, a pry bar made the big difference in getting the transfer case fully separated and "off".

I was swearing up and down and was dead tired afterward... but it's progress so I'm happy.

when you have a np203/205 doubler, the 203 adds what...... another 50 pounds. makes a serious heavy unit all together

Wait till you see how fun it is to get it re-aligned. Sometimes I put some ratchet straps under the thing to prevent the possibility of it kissing the ground (or my head). It helps on the way down and the way back up. You're right that a transfer case is a weird shape compared to a transmission, so the "clocking" alignment can be difficult. I need to drop one soon (input seal seems to be drinking the transmission fluid) and I'm scheming to build a wooden jig in place on the truck that matches the T-case and the jack. That should make re-install way easier.
For 3 decades I bench pressed these in place and then I got older and started using the jack and did all kinds of contraptions to help but finally broke down and got the real transmission jack with tilt ability.
Got the 2000lbs version to change my 10 speed in the freightliner and then used it to put a 700r4/203/205 all in one piece.
Easy peasy.

I'm poor (cheapass may be a better term... or maybe thrifty... or frugal, lol) and don't own any type of transmission jack. I typically build some sort of cribbing and strap the thing to my floor jack. Some simple blocking with your trans jack should do just fine I think.
